I really do find it sad and pathetic a company worth in the billions of dollars is unable to communicate to its community through its own system or platform. Instead relay on a platform that breeds hate, generates AI CSAM, and loses users. Time to innovate @TeamYouTube @reneritchie.bsky.social
YouTube, imo, has video views all but useless as a metric in how your video is performing. Using engaged views as the new, true metric to follow. Thought the latest video was doing really great, only to realize that it's in line with the rest.
🔩 New episode: corded vs cordless tools, and the real math on what a cordless setup costs once you add batteries and a charger. Spoiler, it's almost $1,000 for one tool. Watch: youtu.be/18LU8O2Ez3o

I would like to start a thread of artist's blogs so I can subscribe to them using my RSS feed reader. I honestly hate "microblogging" posts, and constantly getting triggered every time I hop on social media is killing my mental health. Here's mine: coreyartusimagery.com/blogs/musings

I urge you to shop in person. • Postage for <3lbs is cost prohibitive to 20% of the US. • Algorithms hide the posts of those you follow • Scraping is out of control • Generative slop is killing the internet & environment • Tariffs are destroying international sales Shop in person. Interact.
New episode is up. Stepping away from shop talk this week to get into something bigger: getting your spouse aligned on money before starting a maker business. 1/5
Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

Just askin’: does anyone have any Starter Packs for artists who don’t primarily do Magical/Fantasy Realism? I’d love to find some examples of digital artists who do things other than TTRPG/MTG/Game/Comic art. Like Symbolism and Expressionism, for example. Anything out there? #StarterPacks

I’m taking @streamlabs.com desktop for a spin this month on the Ultra plan. So far the experience with using the macOS app is not great. Moving through settings is slow and everything feels sluggish. This is on a M2 pro with 32GB memory.

Fallacy of internet child bans
The British government will introduce a ban on social media access for all users under 16 years of age, set to take effect in 2027. UK prime minister Keir Starmer announced the plans on Monday, calling the move “the right step for Britain” and the best way to keep children safe online. I really don’t believe these bans are going to work. The kids are definitely going to be making workarounds faster than the supposed adults in the room will block. All this does is give bad parents yet anothe...

This. A million times. This. As an aside, those eight scam emails Scalzi received that he mentions at the end used water we can’t get back and electricity that drives up all our rates. So using it demonstrably shows you clearly haven’t a clue, and don’t deserve my business.
Over on Whatever, I talk about the legit business email I got that was written with "AI," why I thought it meant the sender's domain was hacked by scammers, and why using "AI" in business emails automatically lumps you in with scammers and frauds. Don't do it! whatever.scalzi.com/2026/06/11/p...
Am I the only old man yelling at clouds about the over abundance of 1-second jump cut edits in videos? idlehands.zone/t/one-second-j...
One Second Jump Cuts in Videos
I know I’m not the only person who has noticed this, watching many videos through YouTube and other networks. I’ve noticed for a few years that there is a growing abundance of jump cuts that are only one second long for each scene. The only thing I can think of is that the video was to be edited in this way for the short-attention span audience on TikTok or elsewhere. Maybe I’m just getting into the old man yells at clouds stage of life.

Was really surprised in that Linux is getting some good outlooks from the LTT crew. It's not everyday Linus can escape the PopOS curse he seemed to be struck with at the beginning. idlehands.zone/t/results-of-t...
Results of the LTT Linux Challenge
I’m actually happy with what the LTT team did for going through the Linux experience challenge. They brought to light many points, both good and bad, that I think more normal Windows users should start to look deeper into the Linux ecosystem.
