Careful out there #bikechi I just had a black minivan (Honda I think) swerve directly toward me coming head on on Sunnyside. I thought it was a normal inatentive driver but as he got closer to me and I swerved around him he flipped me off. At that point I assume it was intentional. Wtf?!
Living under one of the flight paths to O’Hare, I’ve gotten pretty good at identifying 747s over head just by how loud they are. This is the first time I’ve checked one out and saw it was diverting though.
Northerly Island doesn’t feel like a real place but I’m so glad it exists
Black Keys at Salt Shed tonight finally announced that it’s postponed to two indoor shows in October. It is definitely the right call.
Transformer drama in the alley last night. ComEd came out shortly after and had the transformer replaced in a couple hours. In this heat I was kinda thankful this happened around midnight instead of mid day.
My work VPN is apparently going through Texas today which means age verification for BlueSky. Maybe I’ll see a productivity bump…
It’s hot, but I am learning that it is indeed cooler by the lake.
Any Chicago area mountain bikers on here? I need some riding buddies to motivate me to get this thing out more than a couple times per year. #bikechi
I’ve n+1 too many times and I have to let one go. Let me know if anyone has interest in a nice low maintenance city bike. It’s a Priority Continuum Onyx, size 21”, so for riders 6ft+ish. Belt drive, dynamo hub, fenders, basket, awesome for all seasons. #bikechi
That time of year where I have to unfollow the cycling news accounts cause I’m an idiot who wants to avoid spoilers on the TdF.
Want to take Amtrak to St Louis, but the price is getting out of hand. Also there’s only 1 bike spot left… seems like if you don’t book months in advance for Amtrak, there’s no point. Part of the convenience of train travel is supposed to be flexibility though… run more trains!
Yesterday was the first ride on my new bike. It’s a Surly Grappler, but setup as a flat bar 29er. It’s comfy and pretty quick considering what it is. I think I made the right choice for my new do it all bike. Fenders and rack coming soon.
Through the first 1.5 sentences I thought this was a Cubs post, but then… Regardless, I agree 100%.
what’s happening tonight in NY is how we win the infrastructure is there, you don’t have to build it from scratch, it’s called the Democratic Party you just need to go and wrest the controls from the people who aren’t serious about doing what needs to be done, and as tonight shows, that’s doable
Well that was a hell of a storm. Here’s the temp drop from my back porch thermometer in Ravenswood.
My contribution to the Chicago catalpa discourse. Also, why did it take me 4 years to notice these trees?
My wife on her new Velo Orange Polyvalent. This was fun to put together over the winter and I love how it turned out. #bikechi
Does your local tech company understand consent? > Yes! > Maybe later
This is a wild extra innings score.
The @Mets score 10 runs in the 12th inning to get the win!
I just want one reporter to snap back and tell him to go fuck himself.

In light of the things going on in my home state, reposting this evergreen video about Tennessee. This guy is talking specifically about UT (and he tells no lies), but just apply it to the state government and it works too. youtu.be/Vt2BAfhUHX0?...

Checking in on the sunbelt - There’s clearly some growing pains in Nashville, but this damn quote from the police… “What they need to be doing is wearing reflective clothing, be very visible. Make sure they’re crossing where there’s traffic lights or crosswalk available.”

People look at me funny when I say that April is one of my least favorites months in Chicago, but today is a good example of why. 45* F? Pick a lane, April!
The threat of his face on my passport was the push I finally needed to stop procrastinating and renew. Only took a few minutes online, which was nice.
