For Black History Month, did you know that one of our foundational Tolkien scholars is a Black woman? Melanie Rawls wrote "The Feminine Principle in Tolkien" (1984), among THE seminal works on women and Tolkien. She's written on JRRT and Ursula Le Guin among others and is a fantasist herself.

The Hobbit taught us that Dragons who hoard gold at the expense of the well being of others will have their undoing by even the smallest person. We're meant for more in this world, for good food, cheer, and a comfortable life.

Thinking about reading the Lord of the Rings …and then rereading it, then trying The Silmarillion like 3 times before finishing it & then listening to podcasts & taking online Tolkien classes & writing papers & reading Tolkien’s expansive works, and basically making LotR my entire personality??? Idk

In 1915 Tolkien was just 23 years old, engaged to the love of his life, Edith and had a head full of ancient tales, poetry and myths. His conception of Middle-earth as we know it today was still far off, but the seeds of his legendarium were sprouting… #tolkien
