Hank Green@hankgreen.bsky.social · 8mo agoOne of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back. Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance. Be a housing fan.

At a meeting about whether we're going to build housing for young families like us. An elderly NIMBY got mad at @alanakinrich.medsky.social for 'being distracting' by breastfeeding our baby in the reserved seats in the front. In case you're wondering who they think should be part of this process.
Meanwhile in California we're obsessed with 'breaking up the massing' and stepbacks.

Remember, Zohran's primary win doesn't count because RCV isn't democratic. Also his general win doesn't count because if you took all of Silwa's votes and reallocate 100% to their presumed second choice and also somehow come up with another 2%....
This is great and all but it's also a damning indictment of NYC housing policies over the last 55 years.
