Translator by day, nerd by night. Or something like that. Currently working on Hell Mode S2! 翻訳家兼アニオタです。日本アニメをアメリカで配信するための英語字幕の翻訳をやっています。よろしくお願いします。

The machine translation slope continues to slip. I know sharing internet posts are pretty low stakes, but it’s interesting that Bluesky has so many people against any AI in games and TV and yet be perfectly willing to share screenshots of foreign posts from X translated with what I assume is Grok.

In 2018, a friend invited me to watch Gundam with him. I instantly fell it love and it sparked my obsession for giant robots. 8 years later, I find myself participating in the making of MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM RG XARX-ZERO as a prop designer, matte painter and special effect artist!

I was speaking to a localizer once of a well-loved series - to the point where the publisher knows full-well that localization is a big part of why it is successful in the west - and they remarked "What if [localizer] gets in a car wreck? They're the VOICE of that character. We'd be screwed."

One of the things that, as lead writer, I had to bang into the head of senior leadership sometimes was that writers were not interchangeable even within a project. One writer knew a certain companion inside and out. When we lost that writer, a new writer coming in took twice as long to do the work.

Gonna keep saying it like a broken record, but every time company C does something you don’t like, you should consider using your wallet support the smaller competitors. Money speaks the loudest.

Really loved the energetic crowd at the Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip panel. The vibes were great and it was a lot of fun. It feels great hearing the laughs and hollers when people are watching the screening. Makes all the effort worth it!

My answer about AI in any arts is always the same--It is 100% in the hands of consumers. YOU will choose what role AI plays in arts and entertainment in the future, not artists. Don't ask US what we think about it. Ask yourself. And then use the only voice you have that matters--your money.

Lost in Translation: AI’s Influence on Anime and Manga: Jonny Lobo examines the growing use of AI and Machine Translations in the anime and manga industries. In addition to independent research, he speaks with translators Kim Morrisey, Zack Davisson, and Matthias Hirsh for their insights.

This is legitimately one of the stupidest decisions ever when Gundam X has very recent and very good professionally made English subs that Bamco has already been using.

Oh, hey friends. I haven’t posted anything here in a while. Mostly because I’ve been busy! Which leads me to say, I will be attending Anime Boston in a professional capacity with the HIDIVE team this weekend. Hope to see some of you there!
