I no longer run a bookstore in Portland.

the testimony about how we need public money to go into private hands so then the private sector can give to philanthropic organizations / non-profits was actually the clearest explanation of the rot of neoliberalism I've ever heard. The government should just fund public services & employ people.

Real dead horse but: Two michigan voter sound bites on morning edition today. One voting El Sayed for policies they approve of. One voting Haley purely for horse race reasons. Do you see why the latter is exactly the problem?

every job i see these days is like: LEAD CONTENT ANALYST, Puppy Killing Factory (remote). $350,000 - $500,000. You will edit our internal newsletter (circulation 500). Associate Editor, Nonprofits, Global Good Magazine (in office, NYC). $27,000 - $28,000. Lead ALL of our fundraising efforts!

Last night Portland closed off most of the main public bridge where people watch fireworks so the local Blues Festival could put an invite-only thousand dollar a head outdoor dinner there. Continually surprising how a town this small can be so fully locked down by the interests of the donor class.

a red white and blue spray of fireworks in the far distance, being watched by people in 'elevated barbecue' clothing standing beside tables with white tablecloths, all seen through a chainlink fence keeping the hoi polloi at least thirty feet back.

HOLY MOLY ITS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND. Come out and visit us in the vendor hall for BETWEEN TWO CONS this weekend because the other parts of the convention are sold out. My good buddy will be running my vendor table but I'll be running around and also selling the official Between Two Cons MERCH.
