They May Be Parted

Hey, I’m Dan Rivkin and I’ve been writing about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions since 2012 at theymaybeparted.com. Same guy you’ve seen @theymaybeparted in all the other places.

He's the greatest, and you better believe it, baby! To celebrate Ringo's 86th, here's my annual birthday card - delivered with peace & love, of course - peering at his life as it straddled 1968 and '69 and the profound effect the period had on his life since✌🏽💜🥁🎂🥦 theymaybeparted.com/2017/07/07/t...

TMBP Extra: Oh what joy

With birthday posts previously produced for Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison, it’s about time we righted a wrong, and completed the set with the man born as Richard Starkey. Like the…

NEW POST!! Jan 14: A Day at the Circus Their documentary at an impasse, the Fab Two and friends fantasize about the films they could make instead. While they ultimately became a legend of the silver screen, the Beatles didn’t make as many films as they actually did. As recently as January of this very 2026, octogenarian Paul McCartney recalle…

Finished first listen to Dungeon Lane. Loved it, exactly what I hoped Paul would be making now - sparse, measured, precise pop songs. No wasted moments. Production reminded me of Wildflowers by Tom Petty (which I love, it's one of my favorite LPs). Keep that one, mark it fab. More listens tomorrow.

With so many staggered release dates, there's always a Let It Be-related anniversary in May, (and plenty chances to repost things). OTD in 1970 (May 20), Let It Be film enjoyed gala premieres in London and Liverpool. No Beatles showed up, but plenty of adjacent figures and celebrities attended. 🎥

Happy anniversary - again - to the "the most eagerly awaited album ever issued!" Let It Be: released 56 years ago today (May 18, 1970) in the US, 10 days after it was first out in the UK. (It did reportedly set a record at the time with 3.7M advance orders in the US, so the claim is justified!)

Happy 56th the Let It Be LP, first released (in the UK) May 8, 1970. It’s spirited, soulful, confusing and emotional, a compilation both disjoined yet cohesive at once, a true reflection of the late-stage Beatles. Read all about its making, now and forever, at theymaybeparted.com 🎂🎁🍎

My intention was to post in real time from last night’s opening party of the new McCartney/Wings exhibit at the Rock Hall in Cleveland, but I was totally consumed by the content and simply being social and having a good time. I won’t post every detail - you should come out here, it’s amazing 👐

At the Rock Hall for the opening party of the new McCartney exhibit. Just heard “Bip Bop” playing on the sound system on my way in (now “Country Dreamer”) so it’s gonna get real.

OTD 56 years ago - May 13, 1970 - The Beatles’ Let It Be arrives in theaters dotting the US without any glitzy premiere. Right before Get Back came out in 2021, I wrote at length about the extended lead-up and aftermath of the release of the original film: theymaybeparted.com/2021/11/22/t...

TMBP Extra: That road before

As a film, Let It Be has more backstory than story. In Beatle-time, the 15-plus-month turnaround from the end of their January 1969 sessions until the film’s release in May 1970 was simply a glacia…

New Paul-Ringo song is out - I haven't listened to either of the new Paul songs yet, I think I'm going to wait to hear everything in context of the new album as a whole. This marks a good time, though, to recall when Paul & Ringo shared a writing credit in 1969: theymaybeparted.com/2024/03/29/j...

Jan. 14: Morning, Paul! Morning, Rich!

This time, Paul McCartney’s line was delivered with a smile: “And then there was one.” It was up to the viewers of the 2021 Get Back docuseries more than 50 years later to make out the invisible wi…
