Guns are the weapon of choice for domestic violence homicides in America. In fact, every 12 hours, someone is shot and killed by a current or former intimate partner. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, remember that to #EndGunViolence, we must address domestic violence.

32 years ago today, Dr. Joe Sakran was shot in the throat. He was 17. The bullet nearly killed him. It also changed the course of his life, eventually leading him to become a trauma surgeon and a voice for treating firearm injury as the public health issue it is. 🧵
Today is National Physician Suicide Awareness Day. Nearly half of physician suicide deaths involve a firearm. Healthcare professionals can help save lives by talking with patients and one another about secure firearm storage. Learn more at endfamilyfire.org #NPSADay

Summer means more time at home for kids — and, sadly, a spike in firearm injuries. Medical providers: now’s the time to ask about firearm storage and access. These conversations can prevent unintentional shootings and suicides during these high-risk months. Visit askingsaveskids.org for more.
“I urge all parents to keep your firearms secured in a safe location at all times,” Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said. Every day, 8 kids are unintentionally shot or killed due to family fire, or a shooting related to an unsecured firearm from the home. #SafeStorageSavesLives

The Apalachee shooter’s father gave his son a semiautomatic rifle AFTER police visited their home in response to a mass shooting threat made by his child. This defies all comprehension and now, 4 people are dead. Accountability for reckless and irresponsible behavior must be our standard.
Colin Gray’s prison sentence is about accountability and prevention. When adults leave firearms unsecured, the results can be catastrophic. Safely storing your gun stops gun violence before it happens. Four people should be here. This sentence won’t bring them back but it should be a wake-up call.

Hospitals plan for mass shootings. We must do the same for heat. | Opinion
Unlike most mass casualty disasters, a heat wave rarely arrives without warning. Yet even after forecasts, many hospitals still are not prepared.

New federal data shows that while gun homicides declined, firearm suicides reached a record high. Guns also remained the leading cause of death for people under 18 for the fifth consecutive year. We know this is preventable. Evidence-based, equitable prevention can save lives.

There are an avg. of 1,750 unintentional shooting incidents per year, with incidents highest during the summer and around holidays — especially the week of July Fourth. Always store guns locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition to prevent family fire. #EndFamilyFire
Today is #ASKDay. Healthcare professionals are trusted voices for families. With 7 million kids living in homes with an unlocked, loaded gun, a simple conversation about secure firearm storage can save lives. #AskingSavesKids
Today is #ASKDay. Before your child visits a friend’s house, ask: “Is there an unlocked gun where my child plays?” Parents ask about allergies, pets, and pools. Asking about unsecured firearms should be just as normal. One question could save a child's life. #AskingSavesKids
Let’s change the culture around safe storage and protect our kids -- join us in committing to child safety by signing the ASK Pledge. Head to the link in our bio or visit bradyunited.org/healthcare-askpledge to sign today.

New research @bradyunited.org shows that 6.7 million U.S. children — roughly one in 10 American children — live in a household with at least one firearm stored unlocked and loaded. Now more than ever, we must ASK -- are their unsecured firearms where children are at home or at play?

The U.S. has always accepted more political violence than similar democracies. Threats to Congress have doubled since 2022. But we cannot stop at condemning political violence alone. Time and time again, there is one thing at the root of these horrific acts: our nation's easy access to firearms.
