#CSDBerlin
I still get marketing calls from Japan. I take them because I worry I might miss something important. Every time the agent struggles to pronounce my name, assumes my incompetence, and is finally surprised that I do speak the language. Lavish praise follows. So tiring. I’m glad to have left Japan.
Enjoyed this one. I once went to Fuji Rock to see Japanese Breakfast but missed most of their set because I failed to plan the train connection to Niigata. Since their stage was close to the entrance, I was able to hear their songs while making my way to the festival though which was also cool.
Therapeutisch.
Really wanted to like this; it was okay. In the end I had trouble finding either of the worlds believable. I was also shocked by how a r*pe committed by the protagonist was just shrugged off, had no consequences in the ensuing narrative …
Found this on the side walk today. This is now my lucky guitar pick.
Enjoyed this translation. The introduction provided by Wilson is also excellent. Ready for the movie now! 🤩
Not used to reading philosophy, this was a tough one for me - but also very rewarding. To view gender (and other types of identity) as processes shaped (but not determined) by historical circumstances and not as inalterable essence has a huge emancipatory potential. Another world is possible.
The Artemis II mission reminds me of these 1960s photos of NASA astronauts training in Iceland because they felt the terrain would be similar to what they'd encounter on the moon. The outfits are so great, even some 60 years later.

What a beautiful masterpiece. Said’s erudition and language left me in deep awe, similar as to walking through a gothic cathedral. As someone who majored in a version of area studies, I really should have read this as an undergrad…
For Jacobin, I sat with @michaelpettis.bsky.social for a long conversation about the global trading system. We talked about his influential framework for understanding imbalances, hashed out some of our disagreements, discussed the role of finance and remedies. jacobin.com/2025/12/glob...

Happy 8th of May! They were defeated once; they will be defeated again.
Dedication stone recording the building of a temple at Eboracum (York) to the Egyptian god Serapis. Dating to AD 190-212, it was set up by Claudius Hieronymianus - legate of the VI Legion. Part of the collections at the Yorkshire Museum in York. #EpigraphyTuesday #RomanBritain
