People rave about AI doing everything from proving theorems to finding bugs in software, etc, but by far the biggest boon to my productivity has been the ability to add my signature to PDFs directly from Firefox and Thunderbird with a few mouse clicks. What a time to be alive.

AI Companies Are Buying Antique Books, Ingesting Their Contents to Train Models, and Then Destroying Them at Incredible Scale, Even If Almost No Copies Remain
AI companies are quietly obtaining rare books, ingesting their contents, and then destroying them -- even if they're exceedingly rare.

The members of my group gifted my a t-shirt commemorating 20 years of @graph-tool.skewed.de (counting from the first commit in 2006 during my PhD)! 🎉 Time passes just way too fast. 👨🦳
It's hard to express how weird and cool it was to think about virtual reality and the internet *before* it existed, while the USSR was still standing (even in the future predicted in the book). Reality turned out to be so much lamer; even if our computers have way more than 3 MB of *HOT RAM*.
ok I looked up the different editions and I am pretty sure this is the cover of the used paperback I had. so like 1985. you young people have no idea how cool this book was

Wise words from @doctorow.pluralistic.net "'Post-political' movements are made up of people who don't know what politics are. A 'centrist' is ultimately a rightist, because the foundation of rightism is the supremacy of property." pluralistic.net/2026/07/08/w...
Eigentlich beruht das ganze Christentum auf einer Leihmutterschaft.
My investor told me he doesn't really see the moat in my plan. I explained that's the point. The glacis protects the base of the wall and obscures the ditch entirely. By the time the assault party reaches the counterscarp with fascines, they will be committed and under crossfire from grapeshot
In Ireland, data centres used 22% of the country’s total energy in 2024 – more than all urban households combined in that same year. An incredible 80% of Dublin's electricity use can be attributed to data centres. Via the excellent @eurcorrespond.bsky.social. europeancorrespondent.com/en
I’ve managed to run a simple test on a 2M nodes network, PPBlockState for a quick evaluation: 13 h => 15 minutes (16 cores). I’m speechless, congratulations for this milestone! I’m leaving for holidays with other models running, I’ll come back with lots of things to do! 🙏🙏🙏
His heart was so hardened and putrid that it killed him.
Lindsey Graham died from an aorta rupture stemming from hardening of arteries, according to the medical examiner's preliminary findings.
Good news everyone! 🎉 The new version 3.0 of graph-tool is just out with major improvements! See below. graph-tool.skewed.de graph-tool is a comprehensive and efficient Python library to work with networks, including structural, dynamical, and statistical algorithms, as well as visualization. 1/N
Wir brauchen leider das ganze Geld für Verteidigung, bis es nichts mehr zu verteidigen gibt.
The correlation coefficient is not a proper scoring rule. An agent who ranks models by correlation can be beaten by an infinite class of alternative rules. Here's a 2007 article on proper scoring rules: sites.stat.washington.edu/raftery/Rese...

Writing the exact same R or Python algorithm in C++ very often results in the exact 200x speedup seen here. It's interesting and useful that a LLM can do this translation, but there's no magic at play... programming-language-benchmarks.vercel.app/amp/cpp-vs-p...

Holy motherforking shirtballs. If you're a Claude user and you haven't tried Fable yet, you MUST throw your most intractable problem at it before the trial period ends tomorrow. Fable took a set-building function I wrote and reduced its runtime dramatically—from 52 hours to 17 minutes!!!
Never heard of this “World's cup”... Is it like the “World Series”?
About this time yesterday I was marvelling about how uplifting the World Cup has been, even though it’s taking place in Trump’s America. Incredible that’s he’s found a way to spoil it. An incredible achievement.
I’m beginning to suspect FIFA isn’t completely untouched by corruption.
