I swore I'd never have any home automation because I didn't want to maintain it and I didn't see the point. I take it all back. Today I turned the air conditioning on 4 hours before I got to the house and it was blissful by the time I arrived!
Today we visited the local "snack bar", the closest place to our house that serves alcohol. They sell bottles of beer for €0.80 and a large white wine is €1. There were 3 tractors with ploughs parked out the front
I rescued these frisky frogs from our empty pool and moved them down the road to a pond. He was hanging on through the entire ordeal 😂
Flying back to the UK earlier than planned to vote in the local elections!
Debating on how to get an ethernet cable through a 40-50cm stone wall. If I buy a long enough drill bit will I ever find a mortar path through? How much of a mess am I going to make? I've been putting this off for weeks....
2+ hour queue at border control leaving Portugal for the UK. That is unless you walk to the front waving an EU passport or resident permit in which case there was no queue!
Taking prototype circuit boards in a plastic container through airport security caused a bit of a scene. Apparently it looked like a "classic device". My bag was put aside until a manager came and checked the x-ray and questioned me before anyone would touch it!
You don't need to pay Jony Ive the big bucks to find this out. Just ask any of your customers. Next Jony will be telling us that capacitive touch buttons don't work on steering wheels 🤦♂️
If accidental publishing of your sourcemaps would be embarrassing or would expose your IP, you should probably have a test for that!
I have worked for 11 different software companies over the last 14 years. Each had their own challenges, but the biggest ones were never development speed.
right now everything in the world is telling you to go faster, ship more, add that feature, start another project so i'm actively working on feeling ok not doing any of that
I have an Electron app that apparently crashes on Linux arm64 so I need to debug this myself. I have both a MacBook and a Windows Surface that are arm64. Apparently people have messed up their Surface by trying to dual boot them. Do I use a VM? On which machine?
Does @npmx.dev have package dependents? Couldn't see it in the UI and it's one of the few reasons I ever went to npmjs!
We had our house well water tested and the results are in... it's not safe to drink without boiling. Some bacteria levels are too high. Maybe caused by the recent heavy rain and flooding but I guess UVC treatment might be required. Maybe a good idea to call in the experts!
I never pay for extra insurance with rental cars because I have my own yearly policy which covers the excess. I didn't pay enough attention when picking up a rental car today and opted for not paying extra and now I'm reading the documents I see the maximum I would need to pay is €23,000 😱😱😱😱
@tolin.ski loved the @syntax.fm video about your Electron app. Are you using the @sentry/electron SDK? Also, what do you know about international digital sales taxes and how horrible it makes selling apps these days?
Finally got the fibre installed and the usability vs 3G is night and day, especially at peak hours. 1Gbps symetric was only €31/month! Now I just need to get a ladder so I can remove the overhead copper wires the installer couldn't be bothered to remove 🤦🏻♂️
Love how Quickbooks accounting software now has AI transaction classification that's useless and they've also messed up manual classification in the process.
I love any country where McDonald's/Burger King serve beer at the drive through
I'm working all week on 3G with an antenna up a pole outside until our fibre gets installed next week. Can't even get HSPA+ and AVERAGE latency is 600ms. Might even have to telephone in for meetings 😂
Rather stupidly booked standby tickets not realising it's school holidays so all the flights are full. At this point I've already been at the airport for 12 hours and in 90 minutes I'll know if I'm on the next flight or if I'll be here for another 18 hours 😭 Lesson learned!
This plane gives me 15 minutes of free wifi but I can get another 15 minutes by disabling mac address privacy. Enabling and disabling mac privacy doesn't seem to get me any more time 😔 I can use my other 2 devices to get another hour of free wifi on top of that 🫠
Our broadband provider says they can offer 10Gbps but if I upgrade all our networking equipment it's apparently going to cost an extra 2-4 watts PER PORT used vs 2.5Gbps 🤯
