Maybe an unpopular or even controversial opinion but some people really, REALLY don't deserve free games or games in general. The way some of y'all treat game devs (especially indie game devs) is extremely entitled, rude and, frankly, inconsiderate.

I hate this kind of headline framing, the tale of rags to riches and promise of exceptionalism if only stars align with the proper blood sacrifice and ritual abnegation. Come over baby, even you can make a game alone or with a friend and become rich and famous! Probability: 0.0001% - not impossible.

Meccha Chameleon, the painting hide and seek indie game that's become a Steam hit, was made by just two people in two months — and now it's sold over 10 million copies with zero marketing. bit.ly/43YMwev #IGNSummerOfGaming

I prefer to say "libre" but I'm French 😅. Anyway, I made a little fake crowd that can gather around a point or another based on a simple 0 to 1 ratio. Their pattern is based on sunflower seeds pattern :) #indiedev #godot

Steam Machine seems so dead on arrival, it's crazy. For the same price you can get a switch 2 bundle and 10 full price games, including 9 full price (overpriced) PHYSICAL COPIES that you can resell and that don't take up storage space.

Steam machine page, 1108€a cart with nintendo switch 2 bundle with pokopia, esport resort, splatoon raiders, xenoblades, 1, 2 and 3, donkey kong bananza, hades 2, orbitals and mariokart worlds. 1109.90€

This is a quote from valve about their new steam machine and vendor lock-in: "We think this can make sense for a single business in the short term but that open ecosystems are better for customers over the long term." "open ecosystems are better", do you think steam is an open ecosystem ?

I for one have never complained when I see an indie game priced at 20$-40$ instead of the usual 5$-10$. Sadly I'm also a cheapass who only ever buys games on sale. Gamers need to get over the indie stigma and remember devs have bills to pay to make the damn game.

I've said this before I'll say it again- people like this are completely rotten. You'll see your fair share of them if you're a first-time dev, and they'll say this even if you UNDER-priced your game. You should use common sense, but you should also sell your work for how much YOU think it's worth.

A negative review my 90% positive game just got What I read: "Yes it's fun, but since this is priced accordingly and I don't want indie devs to be sustainable, I would not recommend this game." Please indie devs, don't fall for this. Set the right price. Don't be part of the race to the bottom.

Steam review: Not recommended. 15 dollars for this is ridiculous, it's pretty fun but there's so little substance I can't in a million years understand why it costs this much

If you wonder why indie games are dominated by roguelikes, this is part of why. Make a game that ends? You attract these people complaining it isn't long enough or is too expensive. Make a game that you replay forever and you get to reuse levels and art and ward off the playtime complainers.
