you cannot fix a society where 30% of people are born again fascists by wording legislation correctly, by limiting the powers of this institution or that. i don't know what can fix these problems but i don't think it is possible to insure yourself from organised political will of tons of bad people

Wow. The obviously frivolous case brought by DoJ was actually frivolous as everyone knew all along.

Minute 102 of the World Cup final: my son’s loose tooth came out while eating grilled cheese.
This. Safety is imperative because of our “lethality”. We pose as much danger to ourselves as the enemy does. A large part of leadership is risk management - in training, combat, and garrison - whether risk is to the mission, troops (two top priorities), tax dollars, or organization’s reputation.
If you are not a safety zealot as an officer or NCO, you don't belong in our dangerous profession. (2000, Photo of getting three of my guys out of a rolled tank (on fire), because they were going too fast and hit black ice) 2/2

Got the bill for the birth of my daughter (over 6 months ago). C-section and 2 days in the maternity ward. I guess it’s not crazy considering everything the doctors and nurses have to do. Either way, I’m glad we have insurance.
I feel there’s a difference between those whose religion drives them to fanaticism and those whose fanaticism drives them to religion.
Marco Rubio: "Let me explain this in simple English: Iran is run by lunatics, religious fanatic lunatics.” That statement would have so much more gravitas if Rubio's own country wasn't also run by religious fanatic lunatics.
I hate a lot about partisan politics. Among the two I hate most: 1. The insistence on claiming your candidate did nothing wrong. Even if there is an audio recording, photos, or video. Once the party has settled on a candidate, the party will deny any wrongdoing; don’t believe your ears or eyes.
My son carried a tub of ice cream into the bathroom to inform me, while I was on the toilet, that he needs help scooping. I asked if he finished his pizza. He said no, set the ice cream on the floor, ran back to the kitchen, returned with a mouthful of pizza, and asked “now can I have dessert”?
Looks like the Army is now prioritizing body fat reduction over strength and endurance. AD 2026-13 rescinds AD 2025-17’s AFT score exemption. It’s good to encourage less visceral body fat. But strength and endurance should be a higher priority IMO. armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pub...

Today, it is worth celebrating that our progress over the last 250 years has trended upward, even if there have been some wild troughs on the way. This can be a trough, not a decline. But it’s up to us.
No matter how bad it gets, this is not the way to protest. You do not get to use your rank or position to denounce your commander in chief. Your rank and position are provided for you to fulfill your official duties. www.cnn.com/2026/07/02/p...

Based on my experience as a Consular Officer adjudicating the citizenship of people born abroad I am trying to imagine the bureaucracy that would be needed to adjudicate 3.6 millions births in the US every year.
Am I wrong in thinking it is crazy that developers who use Visual Studio commonly turn off Smart App Control because it blocks files necessary to debug on their local machine (why is that a thing we have contend with?), and that turning it back on requires a Windows reinstall? How is this not crazy?
It’s great to hear that, by a solid 6-3 decision, the Fourteenth Amendment is still deemed Constitutional.
We spent the last 2 hrs putting our kids and 7-month-old screaming baby to bed. For 2 hrs prior we prepped dinner, fed kids, cleaned up, and did laundry. I just caught a glimpse of our child-free neighbors lounging in their pool, drinking cocktails, watching a movie on an outdoor projection screen.
Is there a checklist for what to do upon learning that an immediate family member has been abducted by ICE? Co-worker’s dad was abducted today. Family isn’t sure what happens next. This is common enough in our dystopia - so maybe someone has developed a checklist of what to do?

A garbage truck caught fire in front of my house today. Making a metaphor for my life into a literal display was unnecessary and inappropriate. Parking it at the end of my driveway was a needlessly personal act of aggression. I will be filing a complaint with the city council.
