Chris Walas designed the original Gizmo from Gremlins (1984). He looks much more like an animal in this film. Rick Baker redesigned Gizmo for Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1992). The look fit the films cartoon tone. It's quite incredible how out of place either looks when swapped to the other film.

RIP Bill Oddie. I think to my generation he was known more for his wildlife & conservation work, rather than his contrasting earlier career in anarchic comedy. I loved seeing him in the 1992 UK set episode of Married With Children, in full comedy mode, matching the tone of the cast.

Sad to hear of the passing of director Chuck Russell. The Mask & his remake of The Blob are both full of exceptional, directorial energy. They're two films I saw as a teenager that made an impression as expert rollercoaster movie experiences. Not a second of behind the camera laziness in either.

I've never watched the 1988 movie Nukie, but in the clips I have seen I recognise shots from the film Flight of the Navigator. I seem to remember reading that both films featured the involvement of the company Viking Films.

Aliens turns 40 today. It was the only visual effects Oscar winner of the 1980s that wasn't a win for Industrial Light & Magic. A transatlantic crew, headed by the Skotak brothers & later Brian Johnson, used everything from old fashioned process work & miniatures, to motion control & opticals.

This might be my favourite vid yet from this channel! Tim really digs into the technical and practical detail of why Top Gun looks the way it does. Enjoyed seeing Tony Scott’s storyboards (as good as the Alien Ridleygrams) and the clips of his black and white shorts.

1/3) There's been a bit of interest about the Popeyes restaurant seen in the 1984 Supergirl movie. It was part of the set for the town of Midvale, USA, which was built & filmed on the backlot of Pinewood Studios, outside of London, in 1983.

Everyone seems to have a Sam Neill performance that moved and spoke to them. For me, it's the Steve Barron directed Merlin.

RIP Production Designer Barbara Ling, Oscar winner for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood & designer of Batman Forever. She worked with John Dykstra on both films, creating worlds. My BF video goes into great depth on the huge amount she brought to the film. youtu.be/9xA4QmZDWx8
