How has the rise of Asian popular culture in the twenty-first century expanded our understanding of global Asias? In what ways might media representations empower or disempower Asian and Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals, as well as those belonging to other diasporic communities?

This. The frustration of working on (women and) Christianity in #HongKong is that most studies simply praise the church for “liberating” Chinese women. The church in early colonial days preached conservative Victorian values that were just as patriarchal as the “Chinese customs” it condemned.
