Just out in @natgeosci.nature.com we use ice sheet modeling to identify & characterize behavioral regimes, & the nature of ice sheet regime shifts. We do this using the Shannon entropy signature of mass loss, and find evidence of bistability under high, but not low, entropy regimes. rdcu.be/fmIe1

Ice-sheet regime shifts with climate warming

Nature Geoscience - Ice sheets are steady in cold climates, become unstable as warming weakens ice shelves, then restabilize at higher temperatures. Model simulations suggest sudden shifts between...

So many gems. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... “The manner of geologist movie deaths: Category 2: Work related. Typical examples are being hit by a volcanic bomb, falling into a crater or an opening fault, drowning in quicksand or lahar, and incineration in an oil pit. Grim stuff.”

Geologists on the silver screen—the sequel

As geologists, our interest is piqued when geological processes—with varying degrees of accuracy—are portrayed in movies and especially when a geologist unexpectedly appears on screen, even in a mino...
