Thallium isotopes can be used to reconstruct marine oxygenation (a proxy for this) since the isotope composition of the ocean is heavily influenced by the formation of manganese oxide minerals that form under oxygenated marine conditions. Here’s a good review of the Tl isotope proxy (2/7) 🧪⚒️

New paper led by Gordon Inglis - see @organiccarbon.bsky.social below. On how #carbon burial (via erosion on land of soils and plants, and river delivery to the ocean) could have helped drawdown #CO2 after a warming event 56 millions of years ago.
We have known for a long time that rapid CO2-induced global warming 56 million years ago caused extreme rainfall events and enhanced erosion of the landscape. Our new work shows that this drove increased burial of eroded soil and plant organic matter, which could have removed some of that CO2.
