When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.

Interesting & important article though it does sadden me that the work of biological anthropologists who have been doing this, as adjuncts, without research funding for years is overlooked. It's exhausting. I hope he does well in his next steps. www.statnews.com/2026/04/07/b... via @statnews.com

A star scientist showed that better genetics lessons could reduce racism. It was the death knell for his career

Brian Donovan had persuaded high school teachers and education researchers that prejudice might be ended by changing how genetics is taught.

Congratulations Dr. Achorn and it is an honor to join you and the rest of the Cobb Prof Dev Grant awardees. I cannot put into words how seeing Dr. Cobb next to my name is so meaningful, knowing he paved the way for Black anthropologists. Thank you to the #aaba2026 as well.

I am so incredibly honored and grateful to have received a Cobb Professional Development Grant from the American Association of Biological Anthropologists to fund research on bone proteomes and skeletal pathologies in nonhuman primates! 🐒🦴 Congrats to the other recipients too!! #AABA2026

A PowerPoint slide with a photo of W. Montague Cobb and the names of grant recipients: Angela Achorn, Luke Fannin, Arielle Fogel, Tisa Loewen, Justin Lund, Sharmi Sen, and Taiye Winful.

Excited for #aaba2026, and as a tech early adopter I really do get it... But I'm already taken aback by the #aislop I'm seeing. Generative ai image churners are created on real artists work without their consent. It's not the same as CG/ CGI. There are copyright issues too. Support human artists.

Expert-ness is a craft/ art form. My art & my scientific expertise were cultivated in the same way. What I understand about the world scientifically is nuanced & not the same as wiki 'facts' an AI can give you. We should value things that humans put blood, sweat, & years of tears and practice into.

Maduro was a brutal repressive dictator who destroyed Venezuela. Trump did not have congressional or UN approval to engage in unilateral regime change. Trump's actions were illegal. All of those things can be true at the same time. Don't let them make this about Maduro.
