I have seen similar in the research I have done on the women of Ennis Cumann na Mban. Those who got a pension were sent forms years later to see if their circumstances had change that might impact on their claim. The letters pleading their case for compensation are distressing to read at times.

Great research. They were terrible times. Women everywhere faced indifference by the Pensions Board. Many lost their jobs and could not find other work. Single women had no entitlements by the state. Their heroic contributions ignored. My research on Country Antrim reveals a similar picture.
