software, attention, velocity, design, comfort. ◈ "The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things: of shoes; and ships; and sealing wax; of cabbages; and kings" ◈ https://tmewett.com/ ◈ https://twitter.com/tmewett5 ◈ London ☙

Great argument, unfortunately CALLING OUT FROM SCATLAND 🗣🗣 Calling out from Scatman's World 📣🌍🌐 If you want to be free,💯 you better listen to me,👂🎤 you've gotta learn how to see👁 in your fantasy ✨🔭 BA BO BEH, BOP-BOP-AH-DOP BA BA BA,

I think users probably care less about actual algorithms than they do the seeds/weights. Like what I want is "playlists" where I make collections of accounts and then browse algo feeds based on those. Basically like alts but just for the browsing part.

All I want is a leftism which is intellectually honest, *genuinely* liberal (not punitive), but with some understanding of power dynamics. Is that too much to ask? 🙏

Metta/loving-kindness meditation is one of the most underdeveloped in terms of teaching practices. "Imagine things that make you happy :)" do you KNOW how much mental infrastructure there is out there to explicitly avoid this

I haven't had a crush in yeeears, idk if it's inherently a younger thing but I weirdly miss how much that messes you up lol. In the last ~1yr I get a lot more attention from women when I go out (which is honestly v important for my younger self) but deeper interest is just not there, on both sides 😔

Something I miss from Twitter/X is seeing why posts are on the algorithm feed - "liked by __" or at least being able to mouse-over a profile and see who follows them. Very useful for curating a good feed

The latest in my gradual acceptance of woo is that I think chakras might be real. At least not in the metaphysical sense but it seems right there are places on the body where stuff gets focused or blocked. Will report back

Ok, dudes rock but most conventionally-attractive guys I see when out just have no sauce whatsoever. When they dance there's no belief, it's always with the subtext "haha look I'm cool but I can have a bit of fun too!" Some girls seem to love this though??

Twitter hasn't noticeably change much for me content-wise since Elon's takeover, so I'm confused how people think it's a hellhole now. Ngl I assume they respond to ragebait all day and so the algorithm gives them what they want 🤷‍♂️

The Vive XR Elite is a premium VR headset focusing on mobile, so you'd think it would play well with power-saving/travel. Nope, the controllers wake up via movement, and also sometimes randomly when stationary, so continuously drain power when not in use 👍

Yeah, there's a load of biases/irrationality that people have when they're not trying to reason properly, but there are also weird misunderstandings of logic, badly taught "critical thinking" practices, and new biases among people who *do* try to be rational. Under-appreciated IMO

Rough idea I keep having... Strategies which, by following them, affect your ability to apply the strategy. "Be firm/forceful but don't destroy important things" - you can't, being forceful requires changing your thoughts on what is important to not destroy.

Kind of insane that behaviour and feelings are wired both ways. If you try to act happy when you're not, you will dig up so many reasons why you think you shouldn't. If you try to stand up straight you will immediately know why you feel you need to slouch

Started being way less discriminate about what I put in my GTD inbox - I used to think it was only for task-like things but now I put any random thought in there. The idea is I spend less time interrupted by making notes of passing ideas, just save a prompt and come back later

This tool reminded me of something... I really want to try a writing tool based on recording you voice, like some intuitive controller where I can record, replace, insert, rearrange, speed-listen to snippets entirely with audio, eyes closed

ok i was able to maintain focus for 7 minutes through book 1 of paradise lost at 7 words per second and made it about halfway through book 1. the comprehension was ok, gonna need an independent test of all that with a properly blank slate
