Peterloo Massacre happened on this day 1819, est 15-18 people killed. Came during turbulent period of explosive population growth, food shortages caused by climatic disruption after a volcano erupted in Indonesia, aftermath of war, stresses of urbanisation and industrialisation.
The view from and the view of the Kirkstone Pass Inn today. #Walking #LakeDistrict It's been there since 1496, so I guess it's seen this and a lot worse. (It was also a pleasant change!)
This is just a reminder for people in most of the UK. This is what grass should look like (courtesy of Glenridding #LakeDistrict).
Glenridding to Birkhouse Moor, on to Red Tarn with a view of Helvellyn. It was pretty hot on the way back today. #LakeDistrict #Walking #Landscape.
#LakeDistrict congestion. Zoom in to see the queue on Striding Edge - waiting for their turn to move forward towards #Helvellyn. #Walking #Landscape.
Just a peaceful day in the Yorkshire Dales, where I’m the happiest🥰🐑 #WallsOnWednesday #YorkshireDales #Yorkshire
Pooley Bridge to Glenridding via Gowbarrow Fell and Aira Force (though not much water in the waterfall). #Walking #LakeDistrict #Ullswater
The four Dacre 'bears'. Medieval, but no one appears to know exactly what they represented. #LakeDistrict #Walking
One of the Dacre 'bears' in St. Andrews church yard. Dacre bridge and Ullswater. #LakeDistrict #Walking
History of Bombs by Ai Weiwei, created using millions of woma bricks (like lego). The mosaic shows real scale silhouettes of 50 different bombs - with the destructive scale increasing from left to right over the last 100 years. #Art 'Button Up' exhibition #AvivaStudios #Manchester
Our third water lily of the summer. The small pond is quite shaded, so they have done well this year. #Photography #Macro
Favourite picnic stops. No.9 Bamford Mill pond and weir (and mixed stepping stones and bridge crossing). #Walking #PeakDistrict Usually, at the end of the route, sit down and relax spot.
🎞️ Courtesy of Peak District Moorland Group. Welcome rain has helped wet the fire area, but hundreds of deep peat ignitions remain 4 weeks after the blaze reached RSPB Crowden/Arnfield moor. The goal now: extinguish the burning peat before the next heatwave causes flare-ups.
Bluebells (Spanish !) In the sand dunes at Bamburgh, Northumberland. #landscapephotography #seascape #Northumberland #uk
Looking across Combs Resevoir. Castle Naze on the left on Combs Moor / Edge #Walking (almost in the) #PeakDistrict I liked the contrast - making the Moor dark.
Happy Birthday #Trigpoint 90 years old (yesterday) This one is Brown Knoll in March 2024 #PeakDistrict A little bit wet, I remember.

High Peaks by Tom Chesshyre. A 363 mile walk around the #PeakDistrict. This is a travelogue, not a walking book. An enjoyable, easy read, informative, and gently funny. I really liked it. Though much of the narrative (and walking) is outside of the National Park, it adds context. #BookSky #Books 💙📚
My next read. Wild Peaks by Tom Chesshyre. A 363-mile ramble through the #PeakDistrict (and some diversions outside it). Timed for the 75th anniversary of the first UK National Park. #BookSky #Books 💙📚 #Walking
Did a little hike - the Black Brook Valley from the base of Mount Famine. "You don't need a map, just look up"
The wreckage, crash site, and memorial of Superfortress Over Exposed. It crashed in 1948 with the loss of all 13 aboard. Near Higher Shelf Stones #PeakDistrict #Walking
Some clouds from last week (not like today's blanket grey) #Walking #PeakDistrict A lovely round walk from #Glossop Up Doctors Gate, onto Higher Shelf Stones, Lower Shelf Stones, and back down via James's Thorn. (I think three plane crash sites near by).
What a difference a day makes. Lovely blossom in warm 🌞 yesterday. #FletcherMoss #Didsbury #Photography
