on marion, casey, and object attachment

in my mind, as a child marion firmly believed the idea of toys, esp dolls and teddy bears, secretly being animate/sentient to some capacity and because of this he was really really fucking weird about how both he and his peers interacted with and played with toys. he was fiercely and obsessively protective of his belongings and would not let other children play with them. despite being a pretty mild-mannered kid he would get actively violent if his toys were handled incorrectly and had a hard time willingly parting with them

i don't think he believed they could like move on their own or whatever but i do think that they had some level of influence on the manner in which he played with them and going against their wishes would cause bad things to happen, so he was also pretty scared of them.

once his mom realized he was not engaging with his dolls and stuffed animals in a normal way she sold them at a garage sale while he was visiting family. in the short term, this did help (at least in curbing his irrational fear of and overly possessive behavior in regards to his personal toys/objects as he got older) but in lieu of no objects to project his abnormal thoughts on, things got much more complicated as they both projected inward and he started seeking outlets for them elsewhere.

all i'm saying is that marion probably read The Lonely Doll by Dare Wright when he was a child and it had a fundamental and evil psychosexual effect on his psyche that has lasted until this day and there's not really anything we can do about that

on the other hand casey didn't grow up with a lot of toys depicting humans or other kinds of animals so a lot of his ways of projecting his individual experiences with abuse were more abstract. when he was younger, him and his father would often trap small animals for hunting and casey would fixate on the concept of "putting something out of its misery": the concept that a living thing could be in so much pain and suffer so greatly that to die is a better fate

similarly, casey found both photography and taxidermy extremely alluring: the idea of being able to capture something in its 'ideal' state without the inevitable pain and suffering of being alive, hence his hobby in creating small dioramas with his taxidermied animals.

notably, he will remove any semblance of genitalia on all animals he taxidermies and it's probably the most deliberate and precise that his handiwork gets, sometimes to the point that he takes too much off and animal's stomachs are haphazardly pursed when sewn together due to a lack of usable skin.

he's never had anyone around to ask him why he does this so he's never thought about it but when marion brings it up he's just like Um i don't know i think they just look better that way and marion is like (thought bubble above his head that says "VICTIM?" in giant red letters with an arrow pointing at casey)

Lily's parent's built her a treehouse for her birthday. The treehouse had a big window that looked out in the yard and a table for tea parties. It was perfect! Lily put up all of her favorite decorations. She hung up pink curtains and put her favorite teddy bear in a pink chair.

One day the teddy bear came to life! But he didn't tell Lily. Every day, he would watch Lily climb up into the treehouse from his pink chair. He would watch Lily make him a cup of tea for the tea party. He [watched] (sic) Lily put on her princess dress. She took her shirt and pants off and he watched but he didn't tell her. He was scared she would be mad because he knew that it was wrong because he was a big bear and she was a little

The rest of the story is cut off. The composition notebook paper the story is written on is visibly tear stained towards the bottom, and childish drawings in pink depicting the bear, the pink chair, Lily in the princess dress (without arms or legs), and Lily's shirt decorate the margins of the lower half of the page.

The mascot was a DC gijinka whose name was voted as Reem-chan, designed by Marichan of TINAMIX.
