Taipei election 2026: Both mayoral candidates spent Sunday morning and noon campaigning with city councilors. It's always interesting to watch city councilor candidates "hug" their party mayoral candidates for votes.

You could make the argument that President and DPP Chair Lai's strategy was setting up Puma Shen as the shiny object to be a distraction, but it's obvious the chief DPP target this election has always been getting Su Chiao-hui the New Taipei seat. Shen doing well supports this goal.

He then said that Lee Szu-chuan now only has national figures to back him and they're going to New Taipei a lot to shore up the race versus Su Chiao-hui, but he was unimpressed with the big Lee rally, the lack of energy should concern the KMT. /3

Was listening to a radio show that had a former KMT legislator (didn't get his name but the Storm Mag reporter was with him) and he said the rise of DPP's Puma Shen is extremely bad for the KMT in Kaohsiung and New Taipei even if he thinks Chiang Wan-an still wins in the end. His reasons? /1

Taipei election tidbit: The Taiwan Medical Association and Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry in a joint statement weighs in and indirectly tells off Chiang Wan-an's political drug statements regarding Puma Shen by pointing out that supporting harm reduction does not equate to encouraging drug use.

Taiwan local election watch (Taipei): Seems that the KMT are waking up that the Taipei race needs to be shored up. Going after Puma Shen for his proposed city education policy and a 2014 article on drug management.

The focus on the Taipei mayor race is unreal, it's sucking up all the oxygen so far. I turned on channels like SET, TVBS, CTi and it's mostly Puma Shen flooding these channels. It's almost reminiscent of the Han Kuo-yu hype back in 2018 and Ko Wen-je to a lesser extent in 2014.

Taiwan polls: New 戴立安 poll on President Lai shows him exceeding 50% trust for the first time since last April. Tsai had 25% approval going into her first term local election so this is probably good in the sense that Lai won't drag down the DPP candidates. /1
