I appreciate this episode about our district and its introduction to the Budget Committee Cinematic Universe as a lot of the “wonkery” part of DeKalb’s storyline is similar to other districts. Hopefully not so much the “bonkers.” One thing about our E-SPLOST… 🧵(1/x)

Me and @schooldaves.bsky.social have a new @budgetcommitteepod.bsky.social episode out. We, like the devil, went down to Georgia to talk about DeKalb County schools and all the wild goings-on there. www.budgetcommittee.show/blog/wonkery...

I think I finally going to get a WSJ subscription after years of avoiding it. It’s just expensive, plus ownership. But their news reporting is undeniably good.

I would like the current Teach for America CEO to stop talking about AI and TFA as a “first job” to prepare for the AI economy. It is creepy. His recent interviews stopped me from registering for the summit (I was on the fence).

Dr. Horton pleads guilty Monday morning, about 30 minutes before our board meeting where we are scheduled to hire Dr. Sauce. Oh hey, look at that. The article about all these crimes that I sent the Board before they fired him is an exhibit for the government!

Really good piece. As a parent and someone in the middle of redistricting conversations/reader of NHJ, I am curious why academic tracking was not here- I don’t know what quadrant it would be in, but it is top of parents’ minds. We had a rising 6th grader meeting… (1/x)

How can we improve schools? "If there was one thing our expert panel agreed on, it was that how well ideas are carried out matters." www.nytimes.com/2026/09/28/u...

In news on our indicted former superintendent: One of his co-defendants, Samuel Ross, is changing his plea from not-guilty. Ross’ texts with Horton were published by the government. The joke is the work was fake. Can’t imagine why he would try to avoid trial. 👊🏻🥂

Listened to the This American Life with Nikole Hannah-Jones and have some of the same takeaways. (1) All this is taking place in a school district that is majority Hispanic and that is not mentioned in article or episode. (2) NHJ cannot distinguish between educational neglect & customer service.

I am looking forward to listening. We are currently redistricting and this piece came at an opportune time. Our current planning team says new magnets are unreasonable. The NHJ piece indicates we should revisit this. Redistricting should serve operational goals AND educational goals.

Given how This American Life played such a Big part in amplifying NHJ's focus on school integration 10 years ago, I hope that Chana Joffe-Walt asks some challenging questions in the upcoming episode (which sounds like it's coming out tonight, not tomorrow) x.com/ThisAmerLife...

I have been on Bluesky for 2 years and … I just cannot find the conversations I used to have on old Twitter. I have a “ghost” Twitter account to check news and everyone is talking about the Nicole Hannah-Jones piece. I want that to have those conversations here.

Can’t stop thinking of this! I guess I don’t see advoxacy for other children in the story? The parents at PS307 actually got the principal replaced after Hannah-Jones left. This is advocacy. Messy advocacy, but still. Of course, principal was moved to central. www.change.org/p/please-hel...

I had a lot of thoughts when the first piece came out. This is quite a read. Few immediate thoughts (1/x) www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/m...

Taking the ten year old to see Hamilton at the Fox today and his questions about the history details on the way there are way too pointed for me. Raising a GenAlpha is a journey.
