What's your explain atproto to developers in one skeet post? Mine is... It's a free public key/value store with auth by JWT you don't have to worry about for a stateless API. You also get free type generation for API/Client types, your api and client are sharing the same model written once.

I don't get a lot of the internet drama stuff in my feed, but once in a while it comes across. I think the @hankgreen.bsky.social AI usage thing that really stands out to me is, not press the easy button gets harder in places where you might not want to as demands on your time increase.

More people should run their own atproto stuff!

Migrating my entire Tangled stack to a Raspberry Pi sitting in my basement. Is this the time I also throw a PDS in the mix?

Does anyone have any recommendation for a server chassis that can roughly hold 10-12 3.5" hard drives (doesn't need to be hot swappable) and is compatible with micro-tax. I don't have specific size constraints in mind, I'd rather less deep I guess if I had to put a constraint.

With all the diagrams flying around about atproto™ don't forget you can self host your PDS practically anywhere and truly own your identity. I run mine on a cheap Hetzner VPS that I just have for other things, but you can totally run it on a pi with cloudflared.

Now, with AI everyone can build a website. Before, without AI, everyone could build a website.

We have @standard.site, is anyone working on Standard Community? I'm thinking a standard lexicon set for Forums, Groups etc. Unlock local communities, create more niche spaces. Interact and consume them how you wish with the communities specific App View or a unified reddit like experience.

If it weren't for every damn local community group being on Facebook, I'd have deleted my damn meta account by now. It's frustrating how they hang out, at least in my town in Scotland. If I want to find events it's there more so than local community notice boards.

This is what I love about atproto. It's public data, but it's my public data. Not owned by some corporation who will it however they see fit, but by me on my own servers. Sure it can be scraped, but so can everything on every platform I post publicly on.

atproto is initially focused on “public data” use case. it does make scraping very easy because the entire model is that “everyone is a scraper including first-party apps” i personally bit the bullet. if i create “public data”, i don’t want some company charging rent for access to it. open is open

I know I don't shout about this enough, but atproto is definitely the best mode for how the internet should operate imo.

I left @tangled.org awhile ago in favor of self-hosting everything. I deleted the old entries in my PDS I figured that would have wiped it clean. I decided to come back and it's now trying to find my old repos and still has the old activity information. How can I fix this? Those old repos are gone.
