A striking new finding: 👉 Amazon dieback threshold without major deforestation: ~4°C warming 👉 With severe deforestation: ~1.5°C warming Deforestation weakens the rainforest's ability to generate rainfall, pushing the entire system toward a tipping point. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Robust projections of risks to the Amazon rainforest

Amazonian deforestation is altering atmospheric moisture transport; as a result, even low levels of global warming could trigger dieback of most of the remaining forest.

The RSPB is looking for surveyors to census the UK’s largest Storm Petrel colony on Mousa, Shetland. We need 2-4 volunteers who are comfortable working and camping in a remote location with limited facilities, to help complete playback surveys during mid-July 2026. 🪺🏝️🏕️

The White-bellied Storm-petrel trip also gave up one of two deployed GLS loggers. 1st ever track. Aust. to Chile (10K km) and down towards the Antarctica coast. Unprecedented?! So hard to access remote colonies with over 80 island-days available (2009-2025) but only 8 landings possible.#Seabirds 🪶

❗Freshly published in Biological Conservation European strom petrels suitable foraging areas are strongly characterized by low sea surface temperature 🥶, high chlorophyll concentration🌿and eddy kinetic energy 🌀
