Very, very few ground dwelling spiders out on the West Penwith cliffs at the moment. Everything is rather dry and crispy! This was one of three(!) adult money spiders - Micrargus laudatus. It's something I see relatively frequently in pioneer or very short maritime heath @britishspiders.bsky.social

This small patch of stones on top of a rock at Kynance Cove never misses- that's seven, yes SEVEN(!), female Porrhoclubiona genevensis with eggs inside their little sacs under one stone. I have no idea why they bundle together like this, but it's not an unusual occurrence @britishspiders.bsky.social

Quite amazing camouflage - Philodromus margaritatus in mid Cornwall. They have a habit of wrapping their legs around twigs/branches like this and pressing their body flat. Beating the lichen covered lateral branches trees, partially Larch seems a good way to find it here @britishspiders.bsky.social

One of the highlights of a trip to the Purbeck heaths, Dorset yesterday - the stunning pink Heather Crab Spider Thomisus onustus.

Neottiura bimaculata, Cream-backed Comb-footed spider. Just the one British species but considered regionally abundant. I rarely see it, usually in gardens, and still yet to find a male. This one is carrying her carefully made egg sack and safely released. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Cryptachaea riparia, one of our most fascinating species of spider. It's never an easy thing to find, but there is one spot where I can always guarantee to find it - on the road around the corner from a pub outside of Falmouth! Loads of them along the base of a wall! @britishspiders.bsky.social

A very impressive looking male Ozyptila scabricula, collected as a sub adult a moth ago right at the edge of a friable cliff slip near Land's End. A pretty identical situation to where I had it with @graemelyons.bsky.social on the Lizard in April. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Whaaaaaaat!? Another one! Whilst looking for Altella lucida at the CWT Penhale reserve, we spotted three "ants" running incredibly fast across some scree. Nope, not ants, Micaria albovittata! Another clifftop rarity being found new to one of the most worked cliffs here! @britishspiders.bsky.social

A damp evening out looking for Blue Ground Beetles Carabus intricatus in the Dart Valley, saw 10 beetles, a Nightjar hawking low over trees at dusk and the highlight this Lichen Running Spider Philodromus margaritatus. Dartmoor, Devon
