Check out this cool study by Varsha Mathur and colleagues: www.nature.com/articles/s41... It describes the life cycle, cellular and molecular interactions by a eukaryotic parasite with its host, a marine diatom. This interaction has global impacts on diatom blooms in the ocean.

Ultrastructure expansion microscopy, live-cell imaging and time-resolved dual RNA sequencing reveal the infection dynamics of a microparasite, providing insights into how Pirsonia diadema shapes marin...

Happy to share that my PhD work from the @ulrichtechnau.bsky.social lab is finally out! ^^
Check the brilliant work by Sanjay Narayanaswamy in Nature Comm. www.nature.com/articles/s41.... He established a scalable Gastruloid protocol and showed that in gastruloids of Nematostella axial polarity and germ layer restoration and sorting depends on a Notch-Wnt signaling feedback loop.

Great work by PhD student Patricio Ferrer Murguia. His paper reporting the twist mutant in Nematostella is out: doi.org/10.1242/dev.... twist is required to form secondary tentacles, via localized FGFR and mTOR signaling. Later, mutants form stunning epithelial neoplasia with tentacle identity.
Michelle and I loved reading to this bright group of kids today! We hope this new Chicago Public Library branch at the Obama Presidential Center will be a place where folks come to read, check out books, and connect with one another for years to come.
It's really cool. Old school embryological methods on the right organism, and a big finding.
someone in the lab needs to use the PrepCell and apparently i am the last person to have used it 🙃. Needless to say there is a lot of sceptisism. But i have the receipts! Had to explain about degassing polyacrylamide, and analog recorders! lets see whether we can get this puppy to work.

Here’s the last major paper from the PhD of @paulknabl.bsky.social. We were trying to understand what BMP signaling does in the sea anemone Nematostella when it is not patterning its second body axis. Check out Part 1 in BMC Biol. 2025; and here's is our Part 2 journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...
The anti-neural role of BMP signaling is a consequence of its ancestral function in dorsoventral patterning
Bilaterian animals with centralized nervous systems have patterns of BMP signaling activity gradient that suggest an “anti-neural” ancestral role, but the evidence for this remains unclear. This study...

Americans need to hear this. The administration wants to cripple NSF. It did so by firing all members of the NSB. A significant amount of technological advances that we enjoy is traced back to NSF funding. The NSF budget = 1/3rd of what the Iran war has cost us in 3 months. It's not about $.🧪

Why does learning drop when tech enters the classroom? Because computers train kids to skim. Dr. Horvath warns that we are currently redefining education to fit our tools rather than designing tools to fit how our children actually learn.
