Outside of the races for Congress, progressives had a very good night in Michigan. They won multiple open legislative seats against establishment-backed opponents in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Detroit. The DSA also flipped a seat in Detroit!

First results in the Michigan #HD02 primary just dropped: Joanna Whaley- 56.4% Frank Liberati- 33.7% Gary Schlack- 9.9% Whaley, the evangelical pastor-turned-trans activist, gets out to an early lead
First results in the #WA03 primary: John Braun (R)- 43.9% MGP (D) (Inc)- 39.1% Brent Henrich (D)- 9.6% Others- 7.4% Nothing from Clark County (Vancouver) yet, but looks like MGP will advance to November despite some progressive blowback
Gilmer-Hill crushes Scott in Oakland County and with that I'm calling it for Gilmer-Hill: Detroit DSA wins HD-08
And in the race to replace Stevens in #MI11, moderate State Senator Jeremy Moss is winning, but only pulling 49% and LOSING the election day vote to progressive Aisha Farooqi. Moss- 49.4% Farooqi- 32.7% Torres- 9.7% Ufford- 8.2% bsky.app/profile/uncr...
So... Haley Stevens is only winning Oakland County by two points
So... Haley Stevens is only winning Oakland County by two points
Early vote is in for the Michigan #HD08 primary and the DSA-backed Chris Gilmer-Hall is LEADING incumbent/Haley Stevens-backer Helena Scott: Chris Gilmer-Hall- 48.2% Helena Scott (Inc)- 43.6% Others- 8.2%
Also looks like the DSA will FLIP the Ann Arbor Mayor's office, with former DSA State Representative Yousef Rabhi destroying Democratic incumbent Christopher Taylor: Rabhi- 63.5% Taylor (Inc)- 36.5%
state Rep. Phil Skaggs is in trouble in the SD-30 primary, it looks like, despite having every endorsement one could want. Grand Rapids BoE president Abbie Groff-Blaszak is currently smushing him—with only Grand Rapids in, so he could turn it around
How are you, a Republican incumbent in Kansas, losing 30% of the vote to someone named Pond

There's a Democrat running for State House in Tennessee in a Trump+a gajillion district that has a whole section of his website dedicated to dunking on Charlie Kirk
In doing research on the state legislative primaries in Missouri on Tuesday (article out Monday!), I was genuinely surprised at the amount of Republican candidates who oppose this amendment. Maybe because they realize that it's bad for conservative grassroots initiatives! bsky.app/profile/redi...
On Aug 4, Missouri voters will decide whether future citizen-led constitutional amendments must pass in all eight congressional districts, not just statewide. Amendments referred by the legislature would still need only a simple majority. boltsmag.org/missouri-…
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in New York. After losing the Senate supermajority in 2024, the Democrats should be favored to win it back this year and keep their Assembly supermajority at the same time.
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in Nevada! Despite it being a Trump+3 state and having a competitive race for Governor, the Democrats look very favored to retain control of both chambers.
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in Maine! With Democrats looking set to easily win the Governor's race (and in a very competitive race for US Senate), the legislative Democrats are favored to defend their slim majorities.
As much as it pains me to admit it... Sean Trende knows ball here
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in Iowa! With Rob Sand & Josh Turek leading the ticket, the Iowa Democrats have the serious potential to gain a good amount of seats (especially in the House). Enough to flip both chambers? Probably not.
I'm not changing any of my ratings for Wisconsin until the online pants-wetting over Francesca Hong is reflected in reality. Literally tied with Tom Tiffany among likely voters per Marquette (THE GOLD STANDARD OF WISCONSIN) btw
No but seriously $40 for a state legislative forecast is wild work I get you have people to pay/services are expensive, but geez $40 to see state legislative ratings is insane
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in Arizona! Both chambers are as close to pure toss-ups as can be. With a Democratic-favored environment, the Dems are already favored to flip a few seats, but will it be enough to flip the House and Senate?
Here are my updated ratings for this year's state legislative elections in Colorado! With the Republicans nominating Victor "probably the George Santos of Colorado" Marx for Governor, Democratic odds of supermajorities in both chambers have gone up.

I think I'd respect those who partner with Kalshi a lot more if they just came out and said that they were in it for the money. Instead, they're like "Wow, the odds of this candidate winning are like 25%, that's not impossible according to the degenerate gamblers!" And never disclose partnerships
