Short stories can be amazing and life-transforming and for some writers (raises hand) it's easier to write an 80,000 word novel than an 8,000 word short story. With the novel you have so much more time and space and margin to get things right. With a short story you have to nail it all, fast.

Home from Gen Con. Had an amazing time, didn't get to see folks nearly as much as I'd hoped, super ready to sleep for like three days.
Woken up by rain pouring in through a leak in our hotel windows. Love that for us.
Had an amazing Gen Con Day Two and I'm exhausted.

Purely by coincidence, I finished this book today. You'll like it if you like dark fairy tales...not dark like "brooding morally-gray fae prince," but dark like the old stories, the cautionary tales where terrible, unspeakable things happened to those who strayed too far from the path. I loved it.

Just amazing that now, in the **United States**, if you’re accosted by an armed and/or masked stranger that might have pulled you over in an unmarked car - by ramming you - you’re supposed to just assume this is law enforcement. WTF
Driving to Gen Con sucks because that's like 9+ hours in the car, but it means I get to catch up on podcasts and have long stretches of "nothing to do except listen to music and let my mind wander" which is an important part of my writing process I lost when I switched to fulltime WFH.
I am running a homebrew all witches campaign. It's an INT spellcaster class, so there is a lot of history, arcana, but also a lot of religion involved. They met a spirit of a High Priestess of Sehanine Moonbow who survived the Galahand* raid by magically sealing herself in an underground temple.
