I’m sorry but the very worst use for AI is to reply code review comments. If you’re asking ME to review then I’m asking YOU to read the feedback! I don’t care if people just take it and run claude to fix it but the least they could do is understand where I’m coming from.

Kinda late to the party but Markiplier’s Iron Lung movie was pretty incomprehensible even for me who had played this game before. Still quite a commendable job for his first movie (well, at least commercially big one) just wished for a bit more editing.

Today I got a PR with 516 files and 134 commits. I’m absolutely sure they read through it all, reviewed it closely and did not put AI in YOLO mode to break everything until they saw what they wanted.

I know AIs love emdashes but this is the first time I get to review a PR FULL of unicode encoded emdashes. And I’m talking about \u2014 in the middle of a comment.

I think a fallacy developers fall into when engaging with AIs is briefly skimming through the output and saying “that’s exactly what I would have done”. I find myself regretting not writing those lines sometimes, because I missed something. Not every time but it’s hard to discern in foresight.

Instagram showed me a reel of one dev influencer who said they won a competition for AI by using AI the day before to come up with ideas and then implement one of them. That’s the most unnerving thing I’ve ever seen and the reason why I stay away from Instagram.
