Sometimes I dream a creative project and then wake up just enough to refine a bunch of details, fully invested in whatever my sleep brain decided was a good idea. My favorite recent one was a story about an editor whose job it is to deal with plots that have been ruined due to isekai.

I'm in the fiddly, technical, moving-pieces-around stage of Eastport book 2 and I gotta say, it is SO nice to also have fanfic projects to give the spontaneous creative side of the brain some exercise too

Once again looking warily at my draft and going "but really: how many heists is too many?"

(I just think that if more dudes had been in the parts of fandom where people were reporting embodied, hallucinatory interactions with characters as real on the astral plane those dudes would be hyper aware that their feelings that insist AI is sentient are just a personal horniness problem)

I see some younger queers using "stone" for "stone butch" as a modifier where they are very clearly thinking it means "REALLLLLLY butch" instead of "butch who doesn't want to be touched during sex" and I just. I need some little pamphlets to hand out.

This is one of my most common irritants in otherwise enjoyable books. I need to see *movement* or there's no story. If the stuckness is the point, you still have to give me something new each time it comes up. (This is where an unfolding reveal can come in clutch.)

When we have our characters chew over and over the same thing (their tragic past, how hot the love interest is, why they are Not Worthy To Be Loved, whatever), we may think that will help the reader believe whatever it is. It doesn't.

Sometimes, when someone dies, what helps me is thinking about how wonderful it is that they were even alive in the first place. Dolly was the closest you could get to an American saint. We all loved her.

This one is hitting me so hard. Dolly was such a rare and beautiful and strong force for good--to grow up with her as a light, someone who was From Around Here, was something I'll always cherish.

For me writing is a lot like breadmaking, or maybe brewing... bouts of intensive work interspersed with looong periods where the thing just does its stuff in the background, untouched by me.
