JanRock@janrockart.bsky.social · 7mo agoPast few days I got hit on discord with age verification prompt despite not being a resident of UK/Aus. It appears it's currently worldwide, done at random, not all users receive it, and - for now - it's limited to the desktop app. Editing preference options is locked until I surrender my id.

I fear the worst could happen, so that's why I set up an account on the Stoat chat app back in May 2025 in advance of that happening. Plus, Stoat doesn't have the forced age verification, which is a neat bonus so I'll just stick to Stoat in the event that Discord adds in something nobody asked for.

There's studies suggesting that AI usage is causing cognitive decline, even when it's not causing psychosis and encouraging its users to harm themselves and others, just regular old usage is damaging. Far from a "cognitive amplifier" like this slop peddler suggests, it's a cognitive atrophier.
