Rules around eligibility for athletic competitions are *all* weird and arbitrary. Ask a boxer who’s running circles around a gym in a rubber suit, trying to cut weight. It’s not that they shouldn’t exist, it’s that they should be considered and humane, and prioritize the fun and learning.
