#Spain receives more sunshine than any country in Europe — and it is building the solar infrastructure that geography always promised. Extremadura, Andalusia, and Castilla-La Mancha became the center where Spain added new solar capacity, racing toward its target of 74% renewable electricity by 2030

China is building the largest energy transition in history. When you look at this 25-year timeline, the trend is unmistakable. This isn’t a transition at the margins, it’s a system being rewritten at scale. This is actual generation, not capacity. Fossil has fallen from ~78% in 2000 to 59% today.

And that drop happened while total electricity demand surged several-fold over the same period.

This isn’t a shrinking system cleaning itself up.
It’s a rapidly growing system where new capacity is overwhelming the old.

Most people look at China and see coal.
Or they point to it as proof nuclear is making a comeback.

Both miss what’s actually happening.

Hydro was the early backbone, holding ~20%+ and providing stability. But it doesn’t scale fast enough to carry growth on its own.

That’s where the shift begins.

Wind and solar.

From effectively zero to **11% each**. Together now **22% of total generation**.

That’s not just growth. That’s convergence.

Two different technologies, now at the same scale, becoming interchangeable building blocks of the system. That’s what a maturing energy mix looks like.

Total renewables moved from ~22% to **37%**.

And here’s the key point: in 2025, **clean generation covered all demand growth and more**. Fossil didn’t just slow. It declined.

A quick note on nuclear. It’s not shown here by design. China’s nuclear share is relatively small, around **4–5%**, and has been broadly steady compared to the rapid scaling of wind and solar. This chart focuses on the technologies actually driving the shift.

And now the next phase is kicking in.

**Batteries.**

Storage is the layer that turns variable generation into a controllable system. It absorbs excess solar, smooths wind variability, and shifts energy into peak demand.

China is central here too.

They dominate battery manufacturing, are deploying grid-scale storage at speed, and pairing solar, wind, and batteries into integrated systems.

Hydro stabilised the system.
Wind scaled into it.
Solar accelerated it.
**Batteries will optimise it.**

Now they’re compounding.

This isn’t a slow transition. It’s a parallel buildout that eventually overwhelms the old system.

Generation shows where China is.
Growth shows where it’s going.

Scale drives the system shift.

BOOM! South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less. THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis. #EnergyRevolution

In a depressing era where our European leaders have shown themselves to be listless, unimaginative & cowardly, Pedro Sanchez stands apart. The Spanish prime minister has become the lone voice of moral clarity in 🇪🇺Council. Are the others ready to listen?

After clashing with Trump and Israel, Sánchez casts Spain as moral model for EU

The Spanish prime minister said Europe has an obligation to fill the gap as the U.S. steps back from international cooperation, in remarks at POLITICO’s European Pulse Forum.

Massacre upon massacre in Beirut in the last hour. AUBMC announced a “code disaster.” Over 100 airstrikes in 10 minutes across the country. One hit right behind my house. Sirens ambulances & the smell of sulphur. The city is in total chaos the people in complete panic

Q: Deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure violate the Geneva Conventio-- TRUMP: Who are you with? Q: NYT T: Failing. The failing NYT. Your circulation is way down Q: Are you concerned your threat to bomb power plants and bridges amount to war crimes? T: No. I hope I don't have to do it.

🧵 Democracy feels like it's in a rough state at the moment across the globe, and we hear various explanations, like polarisation, extremism, disinformation, and loss of trust. But what if those explanations are mainly symptoms and we've been trying to treat them rather than the underlying causes?

With 30 GWh paired to 1.4 GW wind + 200 MW solar in a single project (the US added 56 GWh total in 2025), this 100-hour battery rewrites infrastructure & grid math. Wind + solar can push toward 100% supply — covering multi-day lulls, not just peak hours. Operations start in 2028. #Bettrification

Google to deploy world’s largest iron-air battery for Minnesota data center

The 300 MW / 30 GWh multi-day storage system from Form Energy will be paired with 1.6 GW of new renewables to facilitate Google’s 24/7 carbon-free energy goals.

The UK is not currently planning to join Trump’s “Board of Peace”, Bloomberg reports. Starmer is concerned by Trump’s decision to invite Putin and Lukashenko. His spokesperson says the UK commitment to the UN is “unwavering”. The Board of Peace is on its way to being the Board of Dictators.

What makes this statement by Emmanuel Macron so unprecedented is, for the first time, a leading European ally is equating Trump with Putin. “No intimidation or threat will influence us - neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world.” EVERYTHING has changed.

The final part of Macron’s statement published on his Instagram account. It reads:

No intimidation or threat will influence us—neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we are confronted with such situations.

Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context.

Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner should they be confirmed. We will ensure that European sovereignty is upheld.

"Primera respuesta a las amenazas estadounidenses de extorsionar a Europa mediante aranceles para quedarse Groenlandia. La "respuesta firme" es del presidente del Consejo, Costa, que se ha mostrado más rotundo que Von der Leyen. Como es habitual tras una amenaza de Trump, VDL está desaparecida".

First 🇪🇺response to new American threats to take Greenland through tariff extortion. The "firm response" comment comes from Council chair Costa, who has been stronger than 🇪🇺President von der Leyen on Trump. As usual after a new Trump threat, VDL is MIA.

A major escalation in the 🇺🇸🇪🇺 conflict. The 🇪🇺Parliament has no choice now but to kill the surrender deal that 🇪🇺President von der Leyen struck with Trump in July. The lesson is clear: this man cannot be appeased. How will Europe's leaders respond?

Trump says he'll impose a 10% tariff (rising to 25% in June) on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, because they've sent people to Greenland, until the US can buy Greenland.
