Can AI enter into a contract on a company's behalf? As Canadian businesses rush to adopt artificial intelligence tools, they face a growing risk of customer backlash — even legal action — if those tools make mistakes.

This is a great thread on how insistence on author "transparency" to PROVE we're not using AI is fucking ableist. Myself, I'm not changing a thing about my workflow. If you think, despite my history of being vocally anti-AI, that I am in fact using AI tools, then don't read my books.

I know people are very excited about the Emboss tool in Ellipsus that can show readers how often the writer paused and if those pauses seem like "natural" human pauses or .... something artificial, something that hints at perhaps AI being involved.

I'll take this a step further: most of the AI proponents I see - especially with social platforms - don't understand the methods, theories, debates, and philosophies of machine learning either (aka - the three raccoons raccoons tech companies are shoving into a trenchcoat and calling AI).

Another big disconnect in the AI debate is academics/AIbros/AI pushers assuming they understand the methods, theories, debates, and philosophies of disciplines they are not trained in, and appear to have no desire to understand, but are POSITIVE gAI is necessary to those disciplines, nonetheless.

Another big disconnect in the AI debates is that it still seems like almost none of our humanities friends have used or even are aware of agentic AI.

Sam Altman, repeatedly, bemoans that people are polite to his AI gimmick called ChatGPT. He has a problem with this, because when people say "thank you" or other words of gratitude, the expert system always responds... which costs "tokens" to process. Politness costs him about 30 million per year.

I get that they're using AI agents now when I call an airline -- but having fake keyboard typing noises then they say they're "retrieving your reservation now" is a bit much. 😐
