I really disliked Barry Lyndon. It was one of those that I was sitting there baffled that people LOVE it. I couldn't even understand how it was Kubrick. And the fact that it is, is the only reason it endures. It was the year of Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, and Cuckoo's Nest. It should be forgotten.

Absurd, violent, goofy as all hell and embracing it with zero sense of smug self-awareness. Pretty much exactly what I would ever want out of a Mortal Kombat flick.
Because their loyalty always lies with capital. This is how and why liberal democracies fall to fascism. You watch how fast almost any American politician would throw you, people like you, and their values to the wolves the second the purse strings start to fray.

I was a toddler when Crisis happened, so I don't know if that qualifies me as one of these "olds," but I love it deeply. When I discovered it in TPB as a teenager, I thought it was incredible. It was like getting a concentrated dose of decades of DC shot right into your veins.
