this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted

New Past Lives: Around 600 CE, a man died and was buried near the city of Verona in northern Italy. He had led an interesting life, including a migration from present-day Hungary. Most intriguing of all, his right hand had been amputated and replaced with a knife prosthesis. pod.link/1852618120/e...
Forgot to charge my phone overnight and it’s frankly annoying the degree to which my commute not consisting of “listen to a bunch of upsetting things” has improved my mood for the whole day
Oh hey look it’s a browser-playable prototype of my game The Jagged Time. Now with 100% less tedious micromanagement! jaggedtime.shahrom.dev

"Wolf Mother, Mother Lion, Mother of Dragons: Gender and Power in Post-Targaryen Westeros." Titan Press, 1300 AC. A study of the politics of the Seven Kingdoms through the lives of three noble women living in 300 AC, Alia Baelish critically examines how they wielded power in a patriarchal society.
I always take these whenever I see them because the longer I stay in Canada, the less generically PNW my accent gets and the bigger that red dot in northern Minnesota gets.
Of course
“Everyone is fighting an Azathoth cult and I’m here spending my trust fund on firearms, narcotics, and booze”
Narrative Designers (lit. “Double-soldiers”) were a 16th-17th century class of mercenaries from modern-day Germany distinguished by their flamboyant dress, short life expectancy, high pay, and proficiency with the arquebus

We’re hiring. Punch in for the next shift and take the jobs no one else will touch. Exterminauts is a three-player co-op third-person shooter where blue-collar crews fight through the hottest zones on Planet Tian and stay until the work is done. Punch in. Clean up. Get paid.
Recently rewatched Oppenheimer because my fiancée hadn’t seen it and, man, it’s wild how much better of a script it has vs. The Odyssey. It’s still characteristically blunt, but the repetition (“Theory can only get you so far” , “A lowly shoe salesman”, “Not convicting, just denying”) actually works
Meaningless gripe of the day - I kinda hate it when a Wikipedia article slips into this casual register. “Couple of extra bucks” is too informal, the tone is supposed to be detached! You are an encyclopedia!

It's been over a year and countless iterations but *finally* I can announce that my Masters thesis project, a historical strategy deckbuilder based on the Late Bronze Age is finally playable! Requires Tabletop Simulator to play as this is still just a prototype of the eventual game, but enjoy!
many mid (or worse) video game scripts are that way because either a) there was too much conflicting feedback from stakeholders; b) late design pivots meant the team had to reshuffle what they had and live with the results

Seriously it’s hundreds of pages of some pretty good stuff punctuated by a lot of “Can you believe we printed something this subversive? 😏” and then suddenly you hit Delany and you feel like you have to sob and you can’t explain why
Recently finished Dangerous Visions and it’s incredibly funny how it’s a collection of stories that are by and large at best Okay and then ends with the most devastating sci fi short story you’ve ever read (“Aye, and Gomorrah…” by Samuel R. Delany)
