Vaughan Williams created important works in most major musical forms and genres, as well as writing music for film and stage. He championed music-making in the community, was active as a collector of folksongs and was also an inspiring teacher of the next generation of composers.

The Staples Ensemble bring the music of Vaughan Williams to Guernsey on Tuesday, August 18. The Lark Ascending is performed here in an intimate arrangement, placing the soaring, bird-like violin solo against a lush texture of six string parts. 7.30pm, Town Church, St Peter Port.
