Henschel's lawyer played up his military PTSD. This affected the sentence. As a veteran who has lived with PTSD (and the resultant hyperarousal) every day for over 20 years, and as an academic who has studied mil/vet PTSD and moral injury in-depth, I call BS on this one.

A 58 year old Swiss man is able to come to Ottawa and attend the CANSEC arms fair, and yell “I’m a fucking racist and I’m proud of it”, and punch a 21 year old Palestinian woman down to the ground, without any meaningful accountability. Appalling decision by the judge. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"Gems in the rocky beach of biologic psychiatry during the First World War" Evocative? Provocative? It's the subtitle for a section of my chapter covering the "history of medicine" in my dissertation on moral injury and PTSD.

The living Israeli hostages have been released as part of a ceasefire deal that also saw about 2000 Palestinian prisoners freed. Wait, but why are the Israelis “hostages” and the Palestinians “prisoners”? In today’s video, that’s the question we’re exploring:

I was called in multiple times to give advice on the language and content to this apology. I don't know what the final wording will be. But the comments from racist troglodytes in response to the announcement of the apology alone speaks volumes to why it's needed. www.canada.ca/en/departmen...

“I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Wait ... what? We were funded?

One thing that kinda blows my mind: I spoke to national French-language media all morning about this. I did three separate interviews before 10am. I was interviewed for the U.S. publication WIRED about it. But English-language Canadian media? Crickets. It’s just so odd!

Hi. I’m Rachel. My name is first on the website the North American far-right is using to target people they say “celebrated” Charlie Kirk’s death. There’s just one problem: I never did that. But the people sending me threats don’t seem to care. Let me tell you, in my own words, what happened:

A bit rich coming from Poilievre when his own wife retweeted a post by Andrew Scheer directing the right-wing mob to go after @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. His family’s safety matters. No so much those who don’t subscribe to his political project.

NEW: Poilievre says he worries for his family as political violence concerns grow in the U.S. and Canada following the fatal shooting of an American right-wing activist. #cdnpoli #canpoli He sat down for an in-studio interview with @cathcullen.bsky.social www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

UofT Prof Ruth Marshall placed on leave-of-absence. Manitoba Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine had to apologize and retract her comments. What did they do wrong? They both called out Kirk for what he was: a christo-fascist white-nationalist who only ever peddled hate.

The most exhausting thing about today has definitely been seeing so many Liberals (old and new) do some complicated cognitive gymnastics trying to defend the PMO's initial decision to even invite a christo-fascist like Roberts in the first place. Beaverton's satire gave me some much-needed giggles.

Carney cancels invite for Project 2025 mastermind, wants fascist takeover of Canada to be more of a surprise

This occurred in Jenin, the same place where the IDF murdered journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. If they're willing to murder a Palestinian-American journalist and fire on an international diplomatic delegation, you can imagine how dangerous the IDF is for actual Palestinians in Jenin (and everywhere).

!!!! NEW: Canada is summoning Israel's ambassador after the IDF shot at four Canadian diplomatic officials in Ramallah earlier today.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand tweets:

"I spoke with Canada's Head of Mission in Ramallah earlier today. I can confirm 4 of our personnel were part of the delegation in West Bank when the IDF fired shots in their vicinity. Relieved to know our team is
safe. I have asked my officials to summon Israel's Ambassador to convey Canada's serious concerns. We expect a full investigation and
accountability."

Some people are doing the Star Wars themed thing today. But it's also Red Dress Day, highlighting the continued issue of MMIWG despite years of promises and (in)action. [Image: The REDress Project by Jaime Black, installation at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, 2014. Photo: Ian McCausland.]
