Recapping the Senate Commerce Committee hearing: KOSA advanced unanimously, as expected. Youth AI Privacy Act, CHATBOT Act, AI Toy Safety Act all advanced SCREEN Act passed 15-13 on party lines, but there weren't enough people present so it doesn't advance. Not sure of the implications.

@cantwell.senate.gov , you're the ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee. I'm one of your constituents. I don't see any statement about this from you. How are you planning to vote on the SCREEN act?
Mike Stabile@mikestabile.bsky.social · 2d agoThe SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.
WA state people, we need to stomp this anti-trans ballot initiative into the ground.

Updates on fighting Flock and other ALPRs in Washington: - Issaquah passed a moratorium on ALPR deployment - Renton voted to keep the Flock cameras off (although authorized other ALPR usage once it's compliant with SB 6002) - in Auburn, a proposal to audit of practices and outcomes lost 4-3,

Yes, I'm happy with this outcome. I think a discussion around fully local (i.e., not physically accessible outside our city) could have been useful. I'm not sure I would have supported that anyway, but did want to discuss. Without that, an indefinite moratorium is the best outcome.
📸 ALPR: After months of petitions and public comment, council voted unanimously to postpone all further work on license plate reader cameras indefinitely. No city funds can be spent on this technology without a future ordinance and vote of the council.
