Happy Kevin Sumlin Day, to all of the Ags that still celebrate it.
I was interviewed earlier this year, asked if we moved the July z4, 2025 flood over the Nueces would it fill Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi. I said “no” and there was some disbelief. Well 2026 entered the chat, and we still won’t fill Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi.
My “no one cares” thoughts on the Astros trade. It was a “look mommy, I tried hard!” move by the GM. A mid OF for a mid SP. I liked Spaghetti, but dude hasn’t progressed. ERA of 10+ over last 30 days. Career ERA 4.6+. Guess we go with an Ace, a journey, and 3 robo arms down the stretch.
The Spawn was listening to music streaming, a song comes in from an artist that he likes. He absolutely loves it and is wanting to purchase it. I asked…what album is it on? He dropped a couple of expletives. Dude has had the CD for a while. Literally 1st song. Bring back physical music.
Sitting on the porch enjoying a Nespresso…and it is 86F. It’s not the afternoon heat, it’s the lack of cooling off. Made the mistake of checking our comments on various posts on the Book of Face…and I am constantly Battered and worn down… 1/X
Astros are 3 outs away from securing the silver western foot wear…and 12 games over .500 since May 20.
Temps from Childress to Wichita Falls are pushing 108-110 F ahead of the front. I am old enough to remember when the Cowboys has summer camp in Wichita Falls. And the Oilers in San Angelo.
Not gonna lie….been one of the toughest weeks in my career. Easy top 10, maybe top 5. It’s one think to lock horns with Mother Nature and lose… But I am beginning to think that Ryland Grace had it right…
Made the mistake of looking at comments on TV news sites out of Corpus Christi…and we are living in Idiocracy. Overwhelming number complaining of the river flood coverage and claiming it is being overhyped. This flood event will fill their water supply lake…and they are complaining.
Average number of days we hit the hundo in DFW during a summer is 20. Sitting on 8 right now. Easily on pace to hit the over. But we have become so accustomed to the heat, neighbor today referred to this summer as “mild” and asked where the global warming went…
The water from the flooding over the Edwards Plateau 2 weeks ago is just now starting to arrive in Lake Corpus Christi and will continue for the near term… Such different hydrology on the same river system.
current GasBuddy scorecard- Americans today spent $356 million more on gasoline than they did one year ago.
Was kind of told to take a break… Went a saw The Odyssey today. That film is an absolute must in the theater. Now I am having to dust off my nerd Greek mythology to answer questions from the Spawn.
Today was not a good day…so I went down a rabbit hole. Irish Spring body wash smells different than Irish Spring bar soap. I am beginning to think those sum bitches lied and neither one is from a spring.
Trying to distract myself from rivers and coordination… Took a look at the Astros production down on the farm… The best prospects to help this year are pitchers with ERAs around 5 in AAA ball and the best position players are hitting .200 or less in A ball…

Finally that Waller guy gets to share some good news… Huge thanks to the reporter. Only issue is I said “aquifer recharge zone” and the attributed it to the Edwards, which I am not sure on… www.texastribune.org/2026/07/24/t...
Floodwater starts arriving in Corpus Christi lakes
Choke Canyon has almost doubled its supply of water this week, although the reservoir is still at 15% capacity.

Back in my science lane, I have been asked a few times to compare this year to last year’s flood. Simple. Precipitation inputs. Better forecasts with more lead time. The signal was obvious.
SEC Media Days, Ags predicted 4th. Someone has been drinking. Hell Phil Steele has A&M 4th best in Texas. Which is more believable. Even Dave Campbell might be generous with A&M 2nd in the state.
Ahhhh…yes. The car thermometer reading a cool 84F at 655 am.
It is hot enough I keep catching squirrels splooting on my front porch. May turn in the sprinkler to help them out…
Had to tell a young forecaster today that if you got into this business for the recognition, you need to change careers.
First back of the envelope calculations for water supply, Lake Corpus Christi could fill. Sometime during the second week of August. I think it has been 3 years of water restrictions…
Lunch musings… On Sep 5, 230 afternoon kickoff, the Colts host the Armadillos in a vaunted rematch. Wonder what the Heat Index/Wet Bulb Globe Temp will be at kickoff…
I am just going to loop the Progressive Dog Park ad in my Bluetooth speaker here at work…
Again, like that Waller guy knows anything… But seriously, to be included in the same article with some of the names here is an honor. www.texastribune.org/2026/07/17/t...
Key differences spared Texas lives in second straight July flood
Emergency responders say better tools and preparation also played life-saving roles after intense storms dropped heavy amounts of rain.

Some days you are Steve Rogers, busted arm and broken shield…staring down inevitability.
