thinking about the nightmare future where AI *is* effective for knowledge work and that *doesn't* destroy all the jobs but but *does* turn every job in to purely managerial and strategy-alignment work because implementation becomes free

Josh Gondelman@joshgondelman.bsky.social · 19h agoThis is such an great feature (Rebecca is great!), and I've been thinking about it for a few days. IMO, "Influencer" in the ten-years-ago sense was really a LOT of jobs (spokesmodel/copywriter/etc.) but now it's morphing, at least in part, into "intentionally annoying person" which feels worse.
I think this is true for some things, but it's generally true going from "the cheapest thing" to "the second cheapest thing" not going from "the affordable thing" to "the expensive thing"
Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social · 19h agoThe problem with this idea is that it requires that quality/durability of a product grow exponentially with price. E.g.: if you pay $5 for a whatsit, it lasts a year. If you pay $10 for a whatsit, it lasts 3 years. This is an absolute mathematical requirement for the theory to make sense.

my preferred reform, if exclude de facto or de jure abolition which are the correct answers, is that the senate and the house become a single chamber. no more filibuster, and the rural advantage can be overcome by a large enough house majority

it does feel a little on the nose that these guys hate Israel for doing a genocide of Muslims and also they are accusing Israel of a conspiracy to allow Muslims to move to Europe in search of a better life

this is also one of the reasons freedom of religion is important. the government cannot afford special rights or privileges to Christians because doing so requires defining who is Christian and this inevitably makes people angry

This is easily understood with a smidgen of good faith but it’s anathema to prejudice
