I think we should ban the word "problematic" until people stop slapping it on top of everything they don't like because it's convenient and they don't understand how to make an actual point without attacking something.

& works in the same medium, genre, or even by the same author - they don't always speak the same language. They can all use the same symbolism or tropes - but the way they each use those tools can be very different & have different meanings, giving each work it's own unique dialect. It's fascinating
Was it a misdirect all along? Was it all just a plot twist from the start? Or is the deviation so jarring that it's meant to show just how fundamentally wrong it is to be included in the work, highlighting everything around it? Or maybe it's to break previous patterns, showing the seriousness of it?
One of my fave parts of media analysis is getting familiarized with a specific work - noticing the unique patterns, themes, plot beats, etc - where it feels like its own language that you've learned to interpret. & when the work suddenly deviates from that language, it begs the question- Why?

So my inlaws gave me a bunch of char siu and cuts of cooked pork feet & tendon& I didn't want it to go bad so I boiled it all in soup with some ramen seasoning, garlic, sea salt, vidalia onion and pepper and vermicelli noodles, lime and sriracha. It came out extremely good actually. Similar to pho.✨
