14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

I will never pay for tsa precheck. I will never pay for global entry. I will not pay the government a bribe to remove an obstacle they put in place and refuse to improve upon

Undervalued sign that this is a scam country is the fact that you can only use the more efficient and accurate passport scanners that every EU country uses by default if you pay for global entry

Bike brands are pivoting to gravel and MTB in part because it's become absolutely hellish to ride recreationally on the road in the U.S. But at the same time, there's really no advocacy from the bike industry towards safer streets. And to be clear, I'm talking about the biggest brands here.

I'm not the first person to say this, but the bike industry in the U.S. is really missing a huge opportunity by not aggressively defending and promoting e-bikes. I think this is largely the result of it being an industry built on recreational cycling and not transit riding.

I feel like an issue that would connect well with voters would be doing anything at all to slow the current progression toward "absolutely everything now is a scam"

The politics of asking normal people to pay for their share of the cost of providing high quality public services will get easier if we start with taxing the ultra-wealthy at higher levels, even if the revenue that raises won't be enough.

I want El-Sayed to win for a lot of reasons but id be lying if i said getting the “sure it works in New York and California but it can’t work in middle America” people to shut the fuck up wasn’t high on my list.

This will never stop working because the entire finance industry would have to give up a chance at reliable gains during the week. The could stand on principle, but it would mean potentially missing out on profits that everyone else is making. Once that happens, they lose clients to the competition

🔴 ⚠️ BREAKING: US and Israel are preparing to bombard energy-related targets in Iran as soon as this weekend - CBS News

I have some friends who still subscribe to the Atlantic. Briefly scanning over their recent headlines, I struggle to understand what value this is adding to their lives. It’s such bog standard hatred sloppily filtered through the “thoughtful and nuanced” lens

General take on the Wilson review: She makes some broadly good points about the differences in characterization between the poem and the movie. She’s right about the specific characters she criticizes as being flattened or outright changed. She’s also right about the specific omissions the movie…
