Anon Opin@anonopin.bsky.social · 3d agoAquamation is better than cremation. The only body disposal mechanism superior to aquamation is a body farm. Sadly, we don't have any in this country. We really should have at least one body farm per county. And London should have a dozen.
I see that the optional extra finishers T-shirts for my upcoming ultra say "10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY" on then, so I don't think I'll get one when I run the run, over the 57-mile mileage, on that Saturday day.
Everything about online discourse is embodied in the comments underneath YouTube videos of bands doing their singles on Top of the Pops or Wogan that say "I call bullshit on this! They are CLEARLY miming to a backing tape! Lame!".
I'm oddly comforted that, in today's sometimes-harrowing interview, Phil Collins professes to enjoy watching "Shooting Stars". I wonder what he makes of George Dawes' drumming, or whether he's seen the one where Will Self briefly played Mike Rutherford, as Genesis were about to be run over by a car.
I started the day in a singlet but it's become cooler than expected so I threw a loose tee shirt on over it. This is both supremely comfortable physically and also nostalgic. I wore a vest under whatever I wore every single day well into my early twenties when I started to think it was naff.
Tonight's viewing: "The Arbor" (2010) about Andrea Dunbar, the young Bradford playwright best known for "Rita, Sue, and Bob Too". It's documentary footage, but also mainly actors sip-syncing interviews with Dunbar, her family and others. This isn't as off-putting as it sounds.
Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra training week 4/14 complete. I push up the volume and intensity steadily for three weeks and then deload for the fourth, and repeat. This was a deload week, so only 19.68 miles, which helped me recover from soreness and stiffness that had built up. Parkrun #96 today!
I received confirmation today that in just under four weeks I'll be attempting a paced sub-45 minute 10K at The London Marathon Community Track next to London Stadium. I'll need 7:10 per mile. I managed 7:07 for 5K in March, unpaced and off-track, so it is just, just possible I might manage it.
Spouse is off to Glasgow now for her shift as a volunteer at the commonwealth games so I've got the house to myself all evening! But, oh no, I've just remembered I've got an online planning meeting for 90 minutes. We Scottish Greens really know how to let our hair down on summer Friday nights.
My playlist of my '86-'87 soundtrack goes from GTR's "The Hunter" (Louis Balfour side-look: "Shite.") to The The's "The Mercy Beat" (Balfour: "Cool!"). DISSONANT! But I can Pete Frame them with ease: GTR's Steve Hackett appeared live in '86 with Marillion, whose Steve Hogarth plays on The The album.
"The Bride of Sacrifice" looks and feels more confident than the series that began six months previously. I think this mostly due to practice, and acquired craft. The team, before and behind the camera understands its strengths and can repeat them.

About 1981 I bought one of those black vinyl cassette storage briefcases from HMV in Lord Street, Liverpool and walked off with it carrying it as a briefcase. Within minutes a man claiming to be a plain clothes detective stopped me and asked where I'd got it from and asked to see the receipt.

"The Warriors of Death" opens with a commanding two-hander scene between Hartnell and Hill but is thereafter slightly less well-drawn. I find Tonila and Perfect Victim's introduction not so clearly telegraphed as the characters from the previous week.
Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra training week 3 of 14 complete. 33.2 miles in 5h11m, including a joyful 14 miles in under 2 hrs on Friday. The reality that I'll be undertaking 57 miles in one day in early October hasn't really crystalised yet.
I knew Iain and he *definitely* despised Musk! (Joliet Veppers in "Surface Detail" is a brutal caricature of Musk. Musk either skipped that Culture novel or didn't recognize himself ...)
I ran the same today as in March - 14 miles from Balerno to Newhaven. Stats show I'm slightly fitter today, but my average temperature was 17C in March and 23C today, which is probably why my heart rate rocketed. I'm lucky to live in a city where I've got 14 miles of off-road tarmac to do this.

Doctor Who novelisations are becoming like classical recordings. Instead of "I love the 9th, especially von Karajan with the Berlin Phil", we'll be saying "Ribos, sublime, but I can never decide between the Marter and the Goss, although, of course Rushdie's 2032 take has a freshness all of its own."

I actually do this a little bit. It's good for my physical and mental health, I get to meet and know interesting people, and my neighbourhood beauty spots stay beautiful. There is literally no downside. Try it. It's really good.
