Nature is doing its best to try to counter the sad news about Dolly and Tim and Yayoi. Our magnolia tree actually has a flower on it! Despite the machinations of Mr. Possum (and our bungled attempts at possum-proofing), the tree is still alive and has managed to put out a single flower, right at […]

Me: Are we doing 2 Fast 2 Furious tonight? Rodd: Maybe it’s 2 soon?? We went straight into the second film in our Fast & Furious binge last night. We knew going in that Vin Diesel wasn’t in this one and that the only character that carries over is Paul Walker’s. And while I was […]

I picked up my LUSH order this week, and honestly, I needed this little bolt of joy. Soap in the shape of Finnish children’s book characters is a totally normal thing for an adult woman to get excited about. Of course I sprang for the cardboard Moominhouse. How could you not? Everything was wrapped…

After my sneak peek on the weekend, last night was time for the official launch of the State Library’s new Max Dupain exhibition and accompanying book. I knew my friend Bex was a big fan of his fashion photography from the 1930’s and 40’s so I invited her to come along with me on the […]

In happier news, last night I realised that Netflix AU has most of the Fast and Furious movies. I’ve never seen any of them, so I convinced the Snook that we need to watch them all. We watched the original The Fast and the Furious last night, and we both found it really entertaining! We had both […]

Dolly Parton has been a part of my entire life. My Grandma Veva was a big country music fan, and I grew up with Dolly’s music in my bones. In grade school, I would’ve told you that “Islands in the Stream” was my favourite song and I’d play it on a record player over and over. […]

A few days ago I somehow managed to snap off half of one of my (plastic) pedals. How annoying! I’m starting to think that having a secondhand bike might be a false economy. 😂 Anyway, I headed over to 99 Bikes in Stanmore today to get a replacement set. I decided to go with the Shimano […]

Sydney Marathon organisers say finisher medals featuring German stadium an ‘unfortunate error’ – Hahahahaha, I thought that looked familiar! I rode my bike past it four years ago this month. (It’s at the most northern point on that route.)

I love our bigger bathtub post-renovation, and I make good use of it. I was running low on bubble bath last week so I headed to Daiso to see what they had. I ended up getting a container of Milky Bath Salts, the Peko-chan vanilla version. Obviously it doesn’t bubble, but a single capful makes […]

I was excited to see Anil Dash’s DIY replacement for Touch ID, but sadly, it’s a complete misnomer. I got it running and it’s 100% NOT a Touch ID replacement. It’s still useful, but you should know the limitations before you build it. I’ve been wanting a standalone Touch ID button for a long time…

There’s a new Weezer album out! Apple Music suggested it to me yesterday and I listened to it a few times. It’s got a real 90’s vibe that I love. I woke up with “Say Yes” stuck in my head, so I guess that’s my favourite song so far. It’s been getting pretty good reviews […]

This storm also knocked out power at my Dad’s house 100mi away. Thankfully his was restored like 9hrs later. I don’t like to think what would’ve happened if his wheelchair or hospital bed had been without power for much longer. Ten days? That’s a goddamn tragedy of epic proportions.

“Every day I’m crying,” Renita Theus, 41, said outside her darkened apartment, where her car remained trapped under a fallen tree. “It’s hot … I walked to the dollar store and they’re all out of candles and batteries.” "She lost her cleaning job in Chicago … because she was not able to travel."

Sorry chatbot lovers but the waning of Boolean operators in most search functions on websites has made my life actively worse. You can't find anything, you can only have things suggested to you.

Thirty-one years ago I got matched up with a crazy Bostonian as my college roommate. She caused a fire in our dorm room, but she’s also the reason I passed Biology. And when we catch up, it’s like no time at all has passed. ❤️
