I tend to be a practical incrementalist, but if people can’t read the room and see that 2026 voters are ready for — and demanding! — dramatic, progressive change, I don’t know what to tell them. “Electability” in 2026 no longer means a milquetoast centrist. apnews.com/article/mich...

If I could magically push one belief into everyone it would be that life is rarely a zero sum game. Be selfish, that's fine. Just take the logic a few steps further on and realize that you are personally, selfishly better off in the long run if you help everyone.

It’s the same argument for health care: Even if I cared only about myself, I wouldn’t want to live in a community where people are sick and dying on the streets and giving me their transmissible diseases. A social safety net is good for EVERYONE, even those who don’t need to use it right now.

I worked for 30 years in the food stamp program and while we inevitably found some fraud and some payment errors (because we dealt with human beings), those were absolutely dwarfed by the real needs the program filled on a daily basis.
