“Living in the area” is like an ideal thing for a member of Council? Is that why we elect them? Tires and knowledge of the area? Isn’t that why they get so involved in development files? How is living in the area a conflict?

Time to declare conflicts of interest: - Saxe on a Whitney Ave application, because she's being sued by the applicant - Chow on Chinatown planning report and another nearby dev application, because she lives in the area

The issue with The Villages plan was it was too dense and not dense enough and it wasn’t 150% affordable but also didn’t provide opportunities for mom & pop landlords and it wasn’t close enough to transit but not far enough from neighbourhoods and too many young people liked it and old people di-…

Credit to @lucymaloney.bsky.social for being the only Vancouver city councillor (!?!?) to vote in favour of the Villages Plan to legalize medium-sized apartments in a large number of neighbourhoods across the city. Otherwise a major disappointment for the city.

When the police demonstrate they don’t care to follow the law they are telling other drivers they don’t have to either After taking these pictures the driver decided to follow me in his car and demand to know why I took pictures My brother in trillium, you’re driving on the sidewalk in public

The “enforcement” is busy parking their SUV on a very expensive public promenade so they can stare at the lake.

Patrick Condon is deeply unserious and consistently acts outside of the expertise and purview of a landscape architect He attempts again and again to set himself up as an urban planner while trumpeting views that fail to consider the public interest Why media thinks him a voice to platform idk

You almost have to feel sorry for him. Numbers totally detached from reality trying to anchor an unhinged arguments put on UBC letterhead in a desperate attempt to establish authority.

Open Letter to Vancouver Council on the "Villages Plan"
Subject: Serious Concerns with Vancouver’s Villages Plan
Dear Mayor and Council,
I write to challenge key elements of the Villages Plan.
Together with the recently approved Official Development Plan and Broadway Plan, the City is now granting
private owners of more than 80,000 parcels the right to build roughly 700,000 new housing units. This
represents enough capacity to house an extra 1.4 million people—more than double Vancouver’s current
population of 670,000. At today’s 1% annual population growth rate, this single decision delivers over 100
years of future housing supply. Yet even the projects already in the approval pipeline (roughly 78,000 units)
would satisfy 30 years of trend growth.

YIMBYs: I live in a shoebox on an arterial road and cannot afford children. NIMBYs: Living near apartment buildings in my $3M home makes me inexplicably sad and also furious. Local government: How sad? How furious?

It is clear that they view Canada’s natural resources as an opportunity for exploitation. The threats to our sovereignty etc have made this clear. The new “forest management” line is being used to manufacture the consent for clear cutting of our important and magnificent boreal forests. Hands off.

What happened to consumer preference and free market economics? I don’t want to buy milk from a country without functioning food safety systems I don’t want to buy a car that pollutes cities while making them deadlier I don’t need to buy watery beer and TEMU whiskey, domestic is fine
