An unexpected partnership in the Doñana National Park! An Iberian magpie (Cyanopica cooki) travelling with/on a fallow deer (Dama dama). These intelligent birds are often seen following large mammals, feeding on insects. A fascinating example of wildlife interactions captured by our camera traps.
🐺📸 When the model knows exactly where the camera is. These wolves from the Oder Delta (Poland) delivered a perfect pose for our camera trap. While most wildlife pass by unnoticed, some seem determined to leave us with a memorable portrait.
📸🦅 Not all of our best camera trap images feature the species we're studying. These birds from the Oder Delta and Doñana National Park may not be part of our research focus, but they certainly know how to pose for the camera!
🦌 🇵🇱 🇪🇸 🦌Same species, very different worlds. These red deer were photographed by our camera traps in two of Europe's most iconic protected areas: the Tatra National Park and Doñana National Park.
While our project focuses on mammals and larger wildlife, our cameras occasionally capture nice close-ups of smaller creatures going about their tiny but important lives.🦋🕷️🪰🐝

We had the chance to share the WildIntel project at the XVII SECEM Congress! 🙌 Nuria Selva presented the project, and Santiago Gutiérrez showcased Doñana findings on predator–prey links between European rabbits, Iberian hares, and mesocarnivores. 🐇🦊
New publication from our team🎉 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirec... We benchmarked citizen science vs. EfficientNet & DeepFaune on 51,588 camera-trap images. Citizen science had high precision but variable recall; AI improved recall for several species, yet both were weaker at night.
